Title: Could Maurer be our guy for the next 4 years?
Post by: Volznut on October 08, 2019, 05:26:33 EDT
It's early but he has a few things I like - similar things I liked about Josh Dobbs when he was a freshman.

- He has a pretty accurate and live arm. TD pass to JJ was a beauty
- Delivers the ball on time - decisive.
- He can run
- He projects confidence. You don't see that when JG enters the field.
- The team seems to be rallying around him.

This season he will make mistakes, but we need to stay with him.
Of course this could mean we lose out on Bailey.

Sure he could.

I'm still not convinced that Bailey ends up here.  We'll find out on the first Wednesday in December.

I think so, but of course it's early.  Similarities to Dobbs, but Dobbs never was that accurate, Maurer is so far.  Also not nearly as good a runner as Dobbs. Similarity not that great, but maybe the one that matter most - effectiveness - is.

If he leads us to victory over MSU, then that will obviously be a huge next step.

I sensed there was something different about him when he tried to enter one of the games earlier this year when JG had to come out.  Told my bro in law "that might be our guy right there"  Pruitt made a comment that made me think he thought the same thing.

That was the infamous "shoe" incident during the BYU game

Might be....Look for Shrout to transfer with the Maryland transfer being in the mix next year. 247 reported that Harrison Bailey will take some visits...this is the first time Bailey has even hinted he will take visits since he committed to us well over a year ago. Got a feeling keeping Bailey will be a project now that we are staring a true freshman.

Never hurts to have more than one.  Look at all the QBs uga had.

Ironically, with the portal, maybe a guy is more likely to keep his committment.  I wonder if Pruitt uses that as a recruiting tool.   :dielaughing:

Well, ESPN made a point of it, the kid's dad is in prison. Which to me means he is a tough, gritty kid to be doing so well for himself. Loved the first half performance. I've always liked an underdog. I'm a Vol.   :powert:

So I guess he isn't hurt? Looked like he could be.

Man...could have been hurt bad. When he got to the sidelines he went down like he'd been shot.

He has extra protection in practice, but is taking #1 reps

I thought he may have cracked a rib.  That could very well be the case and they are keeping a lid on it.  I am a little surprised to hear nothing about any injuries re: him

However, if he did have some kind of serious rib/chest injury, I doubt he would be able to throw at anywhere near 100%

Pruitt announced yesterday that Maurer would be the starter this weekend.

I doubt it.  But if he does, and Pruitt starts him, then Pruitt really is an idjut.
