Just kidding.

I'm so clueless.  I have no idea who that is or why it's important (or not).

From Twitter: Jeremy Pruitt on post-NSD recruiting celebrations: “The best PR we got is winning football games in the fall. ... I probably need to spend most of my time on the things that's gonna help us win football games."  Emphasis added.

Well said, coach. I assume you mean things like uniform colors.   Sorry, couldn't resist.
29  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: That's a shame. on: February 09, 2018, 11:28:26 EST
IMO, that's just not true. You state that traditions are meaningless, yet one of the fundamental factors in uniting a fan base are those same "silly" traditions that most college fans look forward to each year.

IMO, many of those "silly" traditions are what make college football so colorful and different in contrast to the NFL.

BG

Show me where I said traditions are meaningless. I also never said they were silly.  What is silly -- IN MY OPINION -- is people dismissing the use of the grey uniforms due to tradition.  I love Tennessee's traditions, many of which I mentioned.  But, none of them are "traditions" if one goes back far enough.  Rocky Top started being played in the early 70s; checkerboard end zones started in 1965, then disappeared from 1968 until 1989; running through the T started in 1965; Vol Walk in 1990; Power T is relatively new and followed the block T, which started in 1964; the interlocking UT was used for a long time, even at the 50 yard line, then virtually disappeared due to trademark issues with Texas; etc.  Heck, white cleats were used in the 70s, so why aren't they considered to be traditional?  What's next?  No more checker Neyland, which I consider phenomenal?  Take out the video boards?  Again, the silliness is the unwillingness to accept newer "traditions" based essentially on what one personally views as "tradition."  So, I stand by everything I actually wrote before. What people are calling "tradition" in this context is much ado about nothing. Silly.

Interesting that the Lady Vols are wearing Smokey Grey today.

Yep. I had never seen those before.
31  Sports / VTTW Message Board / That's a shame. on: February 04, 2018, 06:35:00 EST
I really liked them, and so did my kids. "Tradition" is in the eye of the beholder. If the school always stuck with the past, we'd have no checkerboard end zones, no wide orange stripe on helmets, no power T, no Smokey, no Rocky Top, and even no orange jerseys. I don't see any of those as "gimmicks," and I feel the same about the grey uniforms. I liked the black jerseys too, and they're actually more traditional than orange. And, black cleats are "traditional" only because that was the only color made back in the olden days. "Tradition" is much ado about nothing, and depends entirely on how far back one goes. Silly.

Wow, he is truly a VFL.  I wonder if he lurks here???    In my mind, if you truly love the Vols, you must have found your way to the VTTW at some point.

Well, he's been to our tailgate a couple times, so....

36  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I've never been more ambivalent about a college football NC game... on: January 08, 2018, 11:38:25 EST
On one hand there's Bama. I can pull for Bama over the tiglets because I really hate the tiglets but otherwise I shouldn't pull for Bama.

On the other hand there's Georgia. I've always said that I had rather beat UGA more than any other team (except the tiglets) because I know so many UGA fans. This place is swarming with them. If they win the NC the awfulness will be exceeded only when the tiglets win it.

I'll probably watch. But I probably won't be very interested.

I haven't watched a BCS title game since the Vols played and won.  Except for a few plays early in the Vandy game, and the last few minutes of the Army/Navy game, I didn't watch any college football on TV this season.  Tonight's game will be no different; I just have zero interest.  I'll learn who won when I access the internet tomorrow morning.  I'm seriously ready for some college lacrosse.

You seem to be the only one here fitting that description.

6-3...Was that the 2005 game?

Yes.  There's a link to the All Time Schedule/Results in the news section at the top of the board (though it needs to be updated to add 2017).

As opposed to fans like you who made excuses for Jones ineptness for 5 years, which has led to the situation the program is now. I just go by what I see on the field, which showed Jones was not a good coach. Yet many just kept giving him free passes. Now it is just going to take a while to get the the ship righted. I think Pruitt will give it a better run than Jones did. Hopefully he can get the 4 and 5* recruits on board. If he doesn't, it's hard to expect him to beat teams like UGa and Bama that are getting a lot of 4 and 5* recruits.
You are so full of yourself and BS.

Even the great Bill Dance is in on it:

Now it looks like he's getting some lax gear from a college, U.S. National team, and MLL great!

Welcome Coach Pruitt! Three weeks ago we would've rioted at the thought, today I'm grateful you want to be here.

I've actually been hoping for a major program up-and-coming coordinator to be hired.  I'm tired of lower quality head coaches, and I've never cared for retread head coaches from other programs.  I was never excited by the thought of Gruden, and honestly none of the other head coaches thrilled me.  Of course, I'm totally ignorant about college coaches over the past decade or so, so....

Since I usually see about 25 different shades of orange in and around the stadium on game days, I think she can be forgiven.    If he brings wins, she's welcome to wear any shade she wishes.
47  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: My initial thought on a coach was.......... on: December 07, 2017, 07:42:54 EST
I'm pulling for Pruitt. I have zero expectations.

I'm just the opposite; I have high expectations and think he should have a winning record next season and yearly improvement.  That's not based at all on Pruitt, but on what I think any competent head coach should be able to do with a decent staff, the returning players, good recruiting, and good player development.  I don't think that's an unfair expectation.
48  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We all blamed Currie?...... on: December 01, 2017, 05:23:49 EST
I'm no more confident that a Fulmer as interim/permanent AD and Bev Davenport are going to get it any more right than Currie did.

The entire UT administration is one big cluster fizzle.

This.
49  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I think an inexperienced HC hire can be a GOOD thing on: November 30, 2017, 02:36:10 EST
Tee Martin would be an unmitigated disaster as a head coach. If he hadn't played at Tennessee, there is no one in this fan base who would want him as the head coach. Georgia Southern didn't even hire him as head coach, for crying out loud.

I don't dislike Tee at all. But this is only his second season as a coordinator, and he was catching a lot of heat from USC fans for his playcalling as recently as this year. He is nowhere close to being experienced enough to be the head coach at a major P5 program.

Coach Fulmer was what, 42 years old with 3 years experience as OC, when he was hired?  I'd be fine with Tee and strong coordinators.
50  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: There are some reports that we might owe Schiano money...... on: November 27, 2017, 02:57:00 EST
If we had an AD that knows Tennessee then this wouldn't be happening. Working for Urban may have lulled the guy into thinking it's water under the bridge. What actually did happen to him for his complicity through silence?

Currie got his Master's at Tennessee and worked in the UTAD for over a decade before going to KSU.  I guess he's a slow learner.
