1  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What do you think our record will be after the first 4 games. I am going out on on: May 23, 2015, 07:53:53 EDT
While I think OU vs. UT will be a great game, I am not sure it is the best matchup of the day with LSU at Miss St. and Oregon at Michigan St. the same day.  I suspect Gameday could be at Starkville or East Lansing just as easily as Knoxville.  That said, I think the Vols have as good a chance of beating the Sooners as they do of losing.  Stop that OU running game and shore up the OL pass protection, and we should be in good shape.
2  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: It strikes me that as Peyton's career winds down, there's a hard truth to face on: January 13, 2014, 09:27:37 EST
Man, BDV, I really like George Wendt.  Sure, he mailed it in those last couple of years on Cheers, but I think you are being a bit harsh.  Oh wait, you mean Rodgers, nevermind.
3  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: This guy Manning... on: December 31, 2013, 03:29:17 EST
I agree if you just say LB, but all those guys you named are MLB, at OLB, there is really no question that LT was/is the best.
4  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: This guy Manning... on: December 30, 2013, 05:37:13 EST
BDV - while I don't care for the guy, I think Lawrence Taylor would be pretty near a consensus pick as best all time at OLB, and I suspect that Tony Gonzales is likely a near unanimous pick as best all-time TE.

Ticket gone.
6  General Boards / Ticket Exchange / Tennessee Oregon ticket on: August 13, 2013, 04:58:27 EDT
I have one ticket for the Tennessee vs. Oregon game on 9/14.  I paid $99, but I will sell for $75.

Thanks,
7  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: It's WAY early, but how many VTTW folks plan to go to Oregon? on: December 10, 2012, 05:16:25 EST
As I tried to do for the Duck fans coming East, if anyone is going and needs some recommendations on things to do, places to stay, restaurants, etc., I am happy to try and give you the best info I can.  My father lives in Eugene, so I have spent a lot of time in Oregon over the years, including four years attending the UofO.

Just let me know.
8  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Is there anything between the lines or is Hart just stating the obvious? on: October 19, 2012, 09:19:45 EDT
Pete Carroll is from California, wouldn't really call him a Yankee or Southerner, since Cali wasn't really involved in the Civil War.  No way he is coming anyway.  If he fails in Seattle, it would likely be just in time to take over SC again from Lame, when Pat Haden fires him for getting them in NCAA hot water again.  If not SC, I see him staying on the west coast somewhere.

When I read the first post in the string, which was completely innocent, I was sure this was going to deteriorate into some awful left/right debate over religion, instead, I got to read a reasoned debate.

I just wanted to say to all who have posted here on this subject, thank you.  Every one of you posted a reasoned, rational response (perhaps the humorous ones notwithstanding), didn't get heated, were tolerant of others viewpoints that were different from your own, and in short, made very good points.

I don't think I know any of you, but you all are to be congratulated for this because unfortunately it is not a very common occurrence these days, especially on the net, as I am sure those of you with facebook accounts can attest to with respect to the upcoming elections.

Here's to a return of rational discussion of sensitive points in this country.

Good job!

Sounds like Dwyane got all he could out of this tragedy.
11  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Clemson, West Virginia, Cincinnati, and Oregon... on: December 05, 2011, 07:29:53 EST
Blown out?  The Ducks lost by 13, outgained LSU, had the same number of first downs, only averaged .2 yards per rush less than the Tigers, had three drives over 68 yards to LSU's 1 (they scored four td's on drives of 0, 28, 41 and 41), lost the penalty battle by 60 yards and lost the turnover battle 4-1.  We lost (and deservedly so), but blown out is not what happened.

"And we don't have a shoe company founder as an alum to buy our recruits for us like some other programs I can name."

I don't know what Phil Knight ever did to you, BDV, but he must have gotten a serious pound of flesh.  I would love to hear what recruits Knight has bought for Oregon, as this is a clear reference to them.  If you look at the Oregon roster, it is filled with three and four stars like LaMichael James, who all the Texas schools didn't want.  If Phil was "buying" recruits, I wish he would start with some big, nasty DT, so Oregon could stop the Auburn's, LSU's and Ohio State's of the world.  That statement is laughable.

As for the Vols, I think we are on an uptick.  The OL is still relatively young, but I think we are lacking a dynamic back.  Look around at the schools in the SEC that run the ball well, and most have a really great back toting the rock.  S. Carolina has never been able to run the ball well except with Lattimore and when they had the back that played for the Philadelphia Eagles (can't remember his name now).  Bama with Ingram and Richardson.  Florida with Tebow.  Even the Vols with Arian Foster were decent at running the ball.  I think if Dooley can get one top back, and of course that is easier said than done, our running game would show some real improvement.  If Dooley had gotten Crowell, our running game would be good enough, especially with Hunter, Rogers, Rivera (was he bought by Knight by the way, he came from Oregon) and Bray playing as well as they are/were.

Now, defensively, Fulmer and Kiffin left the cupboard really bare.  But Dooley has recruited the two young LB's who look like players.  I think his job is going to hinge not on the running game, but on his ability to stock the defensive side of the ball.  We need corners, safeties and most of all DL.  Dooley's ability to recruit some studs in the tenches is going to tell the tale of his ability to retain his job.  Comparing out DL with Bama's, LSU's, Georgia's, SC's is no comparison, that, in my mind, is where Dooley must start to win some recruiting battles.

Maybe Herbert Hainer, the Adidas CEO can buy us some recruits.  Sorry BDV, couldn't resist.
13  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: UT Nike pro combat uniform mock up (pic) on: August 29, 2011, 09:08:43 EDT
That is the Oregon jersey they are wearing against LSU this Saturday (at least that is the rumor), except someone photoshopped the Tennessee orange over the lightning yellow, and changed the O to a power T.

That said, and this from someone that really likes most of Oregon's combo's, I would rather not see Tennessee go that direction.  I think there is room for updating the look, but Tennessee, like Bama, Penn State and others has such a cool traditional look, that I would hate to see them radically change it.
14  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: If you could change one play in your lifetime as a UT fan, what would it be? on: August 04, 2011, 09:46:50 EDT
Either the 1990 blocked FG against Bama or the Julian Battle interception that was dropped in the 2001 SECCG against LSU.  He catches that, he takes it to the house and we play for a second NC in 4 years.
