2  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Sheesh.....that was ugly........ on: Today at 02:42:48 AM
When Barnes is pi$$ed on a TV interview you know it's bad. That was 2 bad teams dooking it out. And that was about as bad a last minute out of us that is possible and still be called a basketball team.

4  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: LVs vs A&M....3 ET on ESPN2 (Knoxville) on: February 17, 2020, 12:10:27 EST
The LVs do the stupidest things. Down three, going for the last shot of the quarter and they throw a pathetic pass that's picked off, the A&M girl makes the layup, gets fouled and makes the foul shot. Now the LVs are down 6 at the end of the third quarter.

It's maddening. And Kushkituah is a walking turnover machine.

Add the fact A&M was 28 of 33 from the foul line and we were 6 of 16. Just go 9/16 and we still win.
5  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: LVs vs A&M....3 ET on ESPN2 (Knoxville) on: February 17, 2020, 12:08:10 EST
Hereís another worrisome sign. 4 of the top 44 recruits in the country this year are from TN. Guess how many are going to UT? Hint: itís a number between -1 and 1.

Yep....Harper not showing much in recruiting right now. Last I saw we had the 57th and 35th ranked players committed. Not going to cut it.
6  Sports / VTTW Message Board / LVs vs A&M....3 ET on ESPN2 (Knoxville) on: February 16, 2020, 07:21:18 EST
Need this one.
7  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We let that one get away... on: February 16, 2020, 05:54:10 EST

C&P from TOS

Uros Plavsic....

No points. No rebounds. Two personal fouls. Three turnovers.
All in just TWO minutes of playing time.
8  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We let that one get away... on: February 16, 2020, 03:36:39 EST
Shot 17-28 FTs......Had 20 TOs. That gets your ass beat.

Barnes has a bad habit he's been know for for years.....He goes to a prevent offense in tight games and it bites him in the ass a lot. He went to it tonight with us up 6 with under 3 minutes to play. Dribble....dribble...dribble and then try to get into a offense with 7 seconds left on the play clock....RUN YOUR DANG offense and go win the game. USC outscored us 11-3 down the stretch when it was gut check time. Barnes needs to also take some blame for this one.

dams. Well give it time, let's see what happens.  Very likely to qualify for the dance, maybe they can get a run.

With what's ahead as far as schedule unless they pull a couple of upset type wins their NCAA hopes are very much in doubt. This team lacks a lot and speed is a major one. This team is slow and it makes playing defense against fast teams almost impossible. That little LSU guard last night looked like Curly Neal from the old Globetrotters days....She was going around...under...and past every defender we had. We were playing defense like the Washington General did playing the Globetrotters, it was ugly.
11  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: LSU 75...Lady Vols 65...FINAL* on: February 14, 2020, 04:07:34 EST
That LV team on the floor tonight looked very much like a Warlick coached team. In fact...I'm not sure I've seen a Warlick coached team look any worse.

And LSU was without their best player tonight.
12  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: How do you feel about players entering the transfer portal not being able to on: February 13, 2020, 06:23:57 EST
I don't like the transfer portal for undergrads.  If it was up to me, all undergrads would always be required to sit a year if you transferred - no exceptions.

I think that this is fast approaching a 'free agency' type of environment in college sports.  When you make exceptions, you open the door.

That's harsh for the athletes, I know, and I wish that there was a way to fairly govern it but I just don't see it happening.

Agree 100%. If you haven't graduated then you sit a year....And grad transfers have to transfer out of conference.

These undergrad transfers have been very subjective per case and some make little sense. The NCAA said they are going to make it harder going forward to make a transfer eligible the first year...We'll see how that goes.
13  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I smell BACON!!! Tennessee 82 - BBQ Pork 61 on: February 12, 2020, 06:13:33 EST
I love the win. Any win matters, but I don't think Ark is very good. I liked the line up tonight. We'll see what happens 👍

What's funny is before our game the guru's had Ark projected as a 10 seed....I just don't see it. We still have to play them at their place so it will be interesting to see if they are a different team than we saw last night.
14  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I smell BACON!!! Tennessee 82 - BBQ Pork 61 on: February 12, 2020, 03:30:12 EST
One of the better games on both ends of the floor we've played all season.
15  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Rocker leaving to join USCe staff in same position on: February 10, 2020, 06:04:56 EST
Yeah, rumors are flying all over VN that Rocker was "let go" and "on Pruitt's hot seat".

Given how well the DL played, why would Pruitt have an issue with him?  Makes no sense to me.  I thought Rucker was also a good recruiter.

Rocker wasn't much of a recruiter....it has been said he doesn't like to recruit. Most likely why Pruitt offered him a non coaching staff position. We've lost 2 coaches to the NFL so can't fault them for that.
16  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Rocker leaving to join USCe staff in same position on: February 10, 2020, 05:35:44 EST
Rumint on twitter says Rocker's replacement will be Jimmy Brumbaugh, currently working for Tucker at Colorado
If you want his bonifides, checkout Brumbaugh's work at Kentucky on the DL
Also, Rocker is going to the Texans now

I am concerned with losing Drew - did good things for the VOLS here

Yep...Believe it's official now with Brumbaugh. Word is Rocker was offered another position by Pruitt but didn't take it....Within a hour of Rocker announcement he was leaving a replacement is being named. This has been in the works. And leaving for USC where Mushamp is on the hotseat?

17  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Coach Rumph leaving for the Texans on: February 10, 2020, 05:15:52 EST
and this per TOS

Shelton Felton (Akron), former quality control coach at UT, is interviewing for the position and is the likely hire.
18  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Rocker leaving to join USCe staff in same position on: February 10, 2020, 04:23:18 EST
Also our director of player personnel is going to USC with him.....Odd

19  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We need a little more efficient offense.* on: February 08, 2020, 09:23:54 EST
KY guards were too quick for us....And we shot around 35%, hard to beat anybody shooting like that. JJJ would have helped us on defense but don't think he'd made much  difference on offense. KY's last 13 points 8 came from the FT line where we were fouling. We played hard but KY had more talent.
20  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: NSD on: February 08, 2020, 12:42:55 EST
Thanks, Pirate. Agree Rocker can coach. And maybe we'll see QB improvement this season...we better.
21  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: NSD on: February 07, 2020, 10:35:33 EST
Yes, he can and will recruit
He has VERY specific criteria for each position and pursues those that meets that criteria

I am more concerned with the development of the player since previous carney barkers that development was a four letter word to be avoided.

Early returns look promising as there was clear evidence of development this year, especially on the DL and secondary.
The secondary?  See one each Nigel Warrior - rest my case.
Also, we started a true Fr at the other safety spot the last quarter of the season.  Really wasn't till the 3rd quarter of the bowl game did he really miss some coverages and/or run support, and that was corrected, in game.
The DL became a plug and play operation as it continued to develop throughout the season - Rocker has my vote as MVP coach last year.
Henry T was lost early in the season but when Bituli was injured in the Gator bowl Henry T took over (with JJ Peterson beside him) without the defense a missing beat - yes Henry T is a special talent but that is development as a player and leader.

On offense Tee made a difference with the WR - they were running better routes and with a good QB they would have increased their yards (and TDs) significantly.
The OL improved but the biggest assist in the run game IMO was formations
Early we were running double TEs, usually on the right side.  Never passed but ran well (the Miss State game).  Later we went an entire game (I think the MO game) where we lined up in the formation and passed every single time.
Later we just ran behind Trey, Wanya and Pope.  Pope was my MVP this year.  You could see how valuable after his injury when in the bowl game the run game STOPPED, till Chaney adjusted again
Gray is another example of development.  Early, though he flashed talent, he was lost, especially in pass pro.  While I still don't think they fully trusted him late in the year he was used more and more in pass pro.  Where he developed is using patience and his instinct in the hole.  Yes there was some damn good OL blocking in the candy game but early in the season Gray would not have seen the holes opening on the back side.  Gray's reading of Trey's 2nd level block on the winning TD in the Gator Bowl still impresses me.  I don't believe he would have made that read early in the season.

Bottom line is we saw clear evidence of development.  Was it enough?  NO, but look forward to it continuing this year.

Hearing skuttlebutt that Rockers contract ran out the end of Jan and has not been renewed? Also the same rumors said he might be getting ready to retire because he has a son that will be pitching for Vandy this Spring and he might want to spend time watching and following him.

You heard anything, Pirate?
22  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: #8 Mississippi State 72...Lady Vols 55...FINAL* on: February 07, 2020, 03:15:50 EST
TO's gone on now for 2/3rd of the season...Might have a coaching issue. Beginning to think Harper is playing the good cop nice coach because she didn't recruit any of them and doesn't want to hurt their wittle feelings and make them transfer.

Her husband is also the post player coach...they haven't improved at all. Kelly might want to jump his ass and put him on notice. Yeah, right.
23  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Wanya Morris to miss Spring practice on: February 07, 2020, 02:17:36 EST
Crouch out for the Spring too.
24  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Wanya Morris to miss Spring practice on: February 06, 2020, 06:06:48 EST
Hope he recovers well...Probably set him back some missing off season S&C.

C&P from TOS

Freshman All-American offensive tackle Wanna Morris is expected to miss Tennessee's spring practice after undergoing off season surgery, sources tell Volquest.com.

Tennessee's starting left tackle had surgery last month on his hip and will have a lengthy rehab but is expected back for fall camp.
