Because everyone knows that the president micromanages the details of his travel arrangements. He has nothing better to do, and he has no staff to do it for him. And one line from a local newspaper with no background information is definitely enough information to fly into a frothing-at-the-mouth rage. Why haven't impeachment proceedings been initiated? I hear he also uses some fancy foreign mustard on his burgers! And who does he think he is, taking a vacation? If he's going to take time off, everyone knows that a real president spends his vacation clearing brush on the ranch he buys just before he's elected and sells as soon as he leaves office. Because that's how real presidents do it, and it's not just for show, really. And presidents have real dogs, not hypoallergenic dogs to coddle their daughters, just because the precious little snowflakes are allergic. Some might say my pointless nitpicking reflects badly on me, rather than the president, but some people pointlessly nitpicked about another president, and everyone knows that two wrongs make a right. Right?

Right? If he doesn't have enough sense to understand the perception of the family dog having his own jet fly him in when the family went on Air Force One, then he is pretty damned stupid. And you guys claimed that Dubyah wasn't very smart.

Well let's take a look:
Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.; and the president's personal aide Reggie Love, who chatted with Baldacci.
So was the jet there just for the dog, or was it scheduled to land anyway, and they just sent the dog on as a convenience? I am guessing the jet would have flown no matter what...all part of the small army that accompanies a President no matter what they do or where they go.
I am no fan of this President...but I believe that criticisms of the country's leader should be restricted to serious allegations of misdoing and of course, criticism of their POLICIES is always valid. And for ME, this includes BJ's by Presenditial aides. Trying to impeach a sitting President on that basis is almost sure to fail and simply makes our country to look silly to the wider world.
If I wanted to get concerned about something...I had bigger issues with the millions Cheney held in Halliburton options after being CEO..then the huge no-bid contract HAL got in Iraq...then Cheney actually using the F-bomb on the floor of the Senate on that very topic...then a high-level DoD official stating she felt pressure to give the no-bid to HAL. All of that concerns me FAR MORE than some silly detail about a jet, which was probably scheduled to land anyway, with or without the dog.
And let me add, that it's entirely possible that Cheney was completely in the clear on the bidness I describe above...however two things...(1) He actually strikes me as the sort that would think being able to enrich himself as VP by helping his former company is "not wrong", but merely a perk of the game..I honestly thing he was that morally challenged...and (2) someone with other than a "tin ear" for politics would easily perceive that the mere APPEARANCE of wrong-doing is to be avoided at all costs, so as not to (a) look bad, which after all in politics is important, and (b) give one's enemies political ammunition.
As for (a) and (b), I give the previous admin failing grades on both.
I can provide links to all the stuff about Cheney above, just too lazy to do it now.
The problem I have, is whatever you want to criticize Obama for, W was so incompetant that Obama has a ways to go IMO to match him. Thus we might as well buckle down and "enjoy the ride" for now, as I have yet to think he has screwed anything up beyond recovering from. I do hope that the House changes hands in the fall though.

S So the dog and the aid couldn't have both flown on Air Force One? AFO is a pretty big aircraft, Bandit. Watching you guys try to defend the indefendable is pretty funny. And Dubyah and Cheney have been out of office for a year and a half now. What they did or didn't do has nothing to do with our current President's actions and decisions.

I'm not trying to defend anything. I don't like Obama and I didn't vote for him. What I am saying is, if you're going to criticize him, do so with substance. Whenever a President flies, there is simply an ARMY that goes with him. This is a fact. That the dog was on a separate jet means nothing. I would much rather the opposition stick to criticisms that matter to the country and actually mean something. To me, this criticism is petty and meaningless, and frankly if the right is going to criticize things like this, they do so at the risk of their own creidbility as serious critics. But to each their own...

WASTING out $$ to fly a fizzleing dog SEPRATELY! That costs you and I THOUSANDS of $$$! Bush, who you like to be critical of, flew his dow WITH him. I am well aware of the Army of people who fly wherever the President goes. I am also aware of service members who have died during that duty (read Jackson Hole, WY C-130 crash). I am aware of the military advon teams that set up the trips and support (interesting aside as to how Clinton and Bush treated their military teams - BTW, you work near a former military advon team member who has a picture of Bush greeting him and his family on his last trip in his office). Bottom line, for those of us aware of the efforts and costs this was a SUBSTANTIVE issue!

More reading comprehension FAIL for you. The usual Air Force 1 was too big to land there; it wasn't used. Think maybe that had something to do with more than one plane being used? Watching you people criticise the travel arrangements of the president based on no knowledge and even ignorance and the inability to read would be funny if it weren't so sad.

it may not have been in there when any of you first read it. Here's a c&p..."Clarification: Today's story about the arrival of the Obamas said the Obama's dog and one aide arrived on a small jet before the First Family, but there were other occupants on the plane, including several other staffers. The presidential party took two small jets to the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton because the airport was too small to accommodate the president's usual jet." Much ado about nothing.

NO! NO! I REFUSE TO BE REASONABLE!!!! I FOUND A STUPID TALKING POINT AND I AM GOING TO RIDE IT STRAIGHT INTO THE GROUND!!!! HOW DARE THE PRESIDENT HAVE A DOG?!?!?! HOW DARE HE TRAVEL?!?!?! HE IS WASTEITATING MAI MUNNIES!!!!! Reasonable people get the wrong end of the stick now and again. Reasonable people admit when they are wrong. I'm not holding my breath for this crowd.

That's all I was saying. The clarification was not necessary. The plane was obviously about more than the dog...in the original article it stated the President's main aide was on the plane...this would make sense, as he would have to get there to prepare things, etc. The clarification just makes it that much more clear. I think to assume the plane was there only for the dog is not correct....thus this is not a good thing to make a fuss about IMO. Cap and Trade? That's different.....

Considering Bush routinely flew the first pup on the VC-25 (have pictures from my friend who was on the Presidential advon team showing the 1st pup getting off the bird). It would seem, like the rest of the "one's" Presidency, that the pup is for show and not really a real family pet.

So, which bird in the fleet did they fly in on? The C-32 (what Nancy wanted), http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Boeing-C-32A-(757-2G4)/1702889/L/&sid=026567de83d5d553d7a8a1dc33ff669fthe C-40B (pic of C-40C but externally essentially the same as the C-40B - wanted the pretty blue/white paint job), http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Boeing-C-40C-BBJ/1661664/L/&sid=356086771e3afaa1473192ae0bc4daefthe C-37 (what Nancy usually gets - IMO a better bird than the C-32 in any case) http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Gulfstream-Aerospace-C-37A/1687849/L/&sid=71087ab5c5b65a300fbac4f3a3f9cb25or a C-20 (C-20C (GIII) shown, also a C-20H (GIV))? http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Gulfstream-Aerospace-C-20C/1640742/L/&sid=cae53357f1c320d3e57839300e6dbdecAll the pics are in the public domain and chosen for a common thread ... I include this pic of a C-40B because I was on the bird when the pic was taken, (prep for a test flight) http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Air/Boeing-C-40B-BBJ/1321321/L/&sid=356086771e3afaa1473192ae0bc4daef

I have a question - and I'd like to point out that I voted for GWB - twice. How much did it cost when he flew in a fighter jet for his "Mission Accomplished" gig? Were you outraged then? I am incredibly sick of the outrage shown over every thing the president does when the same people screaming about it were insulted when the left showed outrage over things Bush did. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it the most expensive thing any president has ever done? No.

Italy with his dog and wife on the manifest when in reality the only people on board were him and his "personal assistant" a one very pretty female Senior Airman. He then ended up at Space Command and spent $650,000 on redecorating his office and quarters. That SOB threw his helmet at me one day and I'm waiting to see him again. His name Gen Joeseph Ashy in case you want to send him my way.

Actually no more than the cost of it routinely flying between the ship and home airfield, which is, as I pointed out, routine.
