I really wish announcers would prepare

Yes.

If by "NEY" you mean "knee".  I read an article at one point in which the General's widow was asked the proper pronunciation and she is said to have pointed at her knee.

That's what I figured...but "NEY" is kind of ambiguous, hence the mispronunciation by the announcer.
