Given your stance in the thread about mental toughness, I'm really surprised you'd want Petrino.  This guy has screwed over his friends, his family, and every boss he's ever worked for.  EVERY one.  He thought he was getting Michael Vick in his prime.  When that didn't happen, he ran away in the middle of the night, in the middle of the season.  And THIS is the guy who's supposed to instill mental toughness in our players?  He's a snake and a coward, and he'd fit in perfectly with the OTHER high-profile coach at UK.  Let them have him.  I'd rather not sell our souls (again).

I see your point. But I'd still consider him.

Their last big splashy offensive genius was not a proven head football coach. Petrino is as good as Urban Meyer, he's just a bigger a-hole.

I don't think you're giving Herban enough credit- in EITHER instance.

I think a lot of Tennessee fans are going to be pissed off because his name is going to be hot in the search if they fire Dooley. Watch and see. Dave Hart is a strong personality. I would not be surprised in the least if he thinks he is the AD to control Petrino. If you are Hart, you are looking at a guy who is a dynamic coach and a great recruiter who has never run afoul of the NCAA. The temptation to be the guy to "reclaim" him might be too great.

Honestly I can see the point of those who don't want him because I think he has exhibited too much negative behavior to turn it around, but if he did he is the one coach who is out of a job who could take the existing team we have and compete with our rivals. No doubt about it.

Without Tebow, Meyer doesn't win a NC. He won't win one at OSU IMO. His Florida tenure was elevated by a great player. He's a really good football coach but he is not Saban. He, Petrino, Miles, Pete Carroll, and guys like that are the next tier down from Saban.

You may be right on the #badword# part though.

What about defense?  You see the state of the hawg defense after the recruiting priorities u der Petrino.

Their defense was good enough when his offense was good enough to stay on the field.

Also he took Otha Peters from UT. I think he can recruit defense.

He doesn't have the desire to be a head coach I don't think.

He was a good recruiter for a time but got to where he didn't want to go on the road at UT. At LSU he is able to recruit instate and not travel as much, so it works.

I would throw in that even Tebow was not as good without Dan Mullen, although I must also say Percy Harvin was gone as well.  But seriously, I think Mullen had something to do with it also.  He has done pretty well at MSU considering what he has to work with.

While Tebow was a contributor, the 2006 BCS title was overwhelmingly due to the play of Chris Leak at QB and a dominating defense. I think we still win the BCS without Tebow that year.

Urban Meyer has 2 NC's and an undefeated seasonw ith a BCS bowl win on his resume. Petrino has nothing close to that. Granted he is good at coaching, but not sure there is anything in his resume to justify an Urban Meyer comparison at this point

Well that settles it then.  We have to hire Urban Meyer.  Then you can have two ex-coaches in the SEC to bitch and moan about.

Good! Then they will have to deal with the bull shizzle that goes with him
Whether it is screwing an employee, meeting with other college ADs or money bags, or leaving teams in a lurch in the middle of the season he is TROUBLE and would at the end of the day bring just more bad publicity or worse to the University.  We have had enough of that, we do not need any more.
Agreed..we just got rid of a selfish turd full of trouble 3 yrs ago..we don't need another one..I think this team will get better and learn from this loss..is way too early to be talking about a change..I think a win against UGA,S.C or even Bama with that being a rivalry game is possible..Bray needs to step up,grow up and lead this team..Chaney needs open the play book and find a way to get the offense going..when Fla started blitzing I only saw one screen pass,no shovel passes..offense was way too predicable.....Patterson needs to get the ball more,he's a big play just waiting to happen every time he gets the ball...same with Rodgers,he is fast and very capable of taking one to the house

Chaney is really smart but not very adaptive on the spot.

You would not have beaten Tennessee without Tebow that year. That would have given you two losses and knocked you out of the BCS championship game.

Just like the younger UT fans still take up for a coach who fizzleed us over, I can count on you to take up for Urban.

In my mind, they are similar coaches... one of them had Tebow and Harvin and one didn't. Just my opinion.

Talk about frustrating games, the 2006 uf game is near the top of my list.  That 4th down conversion not only led to our defeat and an MNC for uf, it was the beginning of the Tebow legend.
