Chris Mortensen, a very respected NFL talking head said this when asked by an Arkansas sports guy:

Mort: "The Tennessee job would be the only collegiate job that I think could really get Jon Gruden's attention."

The thing that strikes me about these guys like Mortensen and LaCanfora is that they not only know him well because he used to coach in the league, but they're now colleagues of his. What I wonder is if they're just making presumptions like everyone else or if he's actually said something in conversation to those guys? Most of them would be too professional to just come right out and say something like "Jon Gruden would like to be the coach at Tennessee," but they can say things like, "Well, if I were guessing, Gruden would like to coach at Tennessee." Say it without saying it, more or less.

Dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they

This I did.

Piling on to the hype a bit, Mort was on 104.5 this morning and he suggested that there are things happening in the NFL that may be a turn-off to Gruden. He also said that he expects Gruden to coach again and he knows that the collegiate game intrigues him.

Mortensen just wants hits on his blog.

No, he was being asked by an Arkansas person, and he was responding politely, because like all of us he has heard 1000 times that Gruden's wife is from Tennessee.  "Tennessee is the only job he would consider"  sounds better than "hell no".

But you never know, maybe Chuckie is coming to Knoxville.  OV thinks so.

Tying someone to a job because his wife is from that area is the type of nonsense fans fall for. Much as I do not like Mortensen, he's going on a little more than that. If he thinks Gruden might be interested in the UT job, rest assured that he's got something besides Mrs. Gruden being from East Tennessee to back that up.

Might be more to it, but my answer is the same....he is just saying that to be polite to Arkansas.  ICBW, guess we'll find out.

You've already foiled Hart's plan. Now you aren't gonna be satisfied until you foil Mort's also...
