make one mention of his death. I cried the day he died. Actually I'm teary -eyed now. I also quit chewing the day after. He was the same age I am, 53. He was a tobacco chewer and it killed him. He is the best hitter people my age have seen. He retired the same year Cal Ripken retired, so he was also overlooked then as well. This is one of the nicest, most decent players MLB has ever seen. Plus he is one of it's all-time greats. When you say hitter, I think Tony Gwynne. I am just saddened that such a great player and person is overlooked.

Are you kidding?  That would mean they'd have to stop fellating Derek Jeter for two minutes.

I think it's pretty funny that Adam Wainwright admitted to grooving the pitch that Jeter hit for a double to lead off the game.  That ignited a 3 run first inning for the AL.  And THIS is what decides homefield advantage in the World Series.

I use to love the all star game.  Interleague play killed it as far as I am concerned.

I'm not up on all this fancy baseball slang.  Do you mean he gave him a soft pitch?

I stopped watching baseball years ago. I really turned against the players when they kept going on strike. The All-Star game is meaningless so I make a point of avoiding it (especially because it was on Fox). Fox announcers even on football games next shut up and seem to pick a subject to drone on endlessly until you mute the sound. Not even the World Series gets me excited any more. I remember seeing real players in 1950s and 1960s that played for the game rather than for dollars. Gawd, I sound like my Granfathers now. I'll shut up.
