Anyone use Dish? If so, what package do you have, how long is your contract, and how much does it cost?

Been with Dish Network for over 5 years now.

I have the "Gold" package which includes everything except for the paid movie channels.  It includes entire house HD, and "Hoppah".

We pay under $100 per month, and I think we did a two year contract the last time to lock in the rate.

Have zero negative issues with Dish Network, unlike I had with Comcast - who is the devil.

Yeah, and I think soon we are going to get rid of the round screen and go to the RCA cabinet console.

We've got 4.

That isn't bad. I have been considering switching, I have directv, and we have 3 TVs, and we pay $116/ per month. Plus they have yet to agree to a deal with the SEC network.

You are actually in a pretty good position.  Dish loves to take customers from Direct and will negotiate a really good deal to do it.  Just be sure they know you are a Direct customer when you start talking dollars.

I got a sweet deal last year when I switched from Direct.  They gave me all the premium channels free for 3 months, and my rate for those first three months was $43 for the Gold package that HTK described.  After three months it went up to $58 and I lost all the premiums except TMC.  I have Encore, but not sure if that's premium...don't think so.  I think TMC and Encore are included in the package I have, which...although I call it gold, it's the top of the four basic packages they offer with no extras.

My bill a couple months ago went up to right at $100 and I have yet to renegotiate it.  I need to do that.

I only have two minor complaints...the Dish rewind feature is a bit glitchy compared to Direct and Dish also provides less information on movies with the "info" feature.

But I believe a similar package with Direct would be $15-20 more, so I am quite happy.

So, dumb question but can someone remind me what the new SEC network even entails?  In the past CBS has carried a noon and a 3:30 SEC game and then of course ESPN has been rolling with SEC games on the 7-8pm slot.  What's the new SEC network lineup going to provide, and why should I care if DirecTV gets it or not?  Is it going to be rolled into DirecTV's existing base package or is this going to be something extra like the NFL Sunday Ticket where you basically get EVERY SEC game every Saturday?

Thanks for the info esteemed posters.

My understanding is the network will carry everything but the CBS and ESPN games.

Besides a ton of football games, the SEC Network will also carry mens and womens basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and other "non-revenue generating" sports by the tons.  It will also have a show similar to ESPN's Gameday, and a daily SEC news show, ala Sportscenter.

It will be wall to wall SEC sports, mens and womens.

Right, but is it going to be an add on package we pay for like NFL Sunday Ticket or will it be part of most standard programming?

It sounds like Comcast is going to put it on their "premier" tier, which is what I have.  It's one step up from their bare-bones, 40 channel package.  And I don't even get ESPNU, so I'm pleasantly surprised.  I figured I'd have to upgrade.  I assume other providers will do the same.

It's going to be part of the "sports package" with Dish, which includes the Fox regional sports networks, the Big 10 Network, MLB Network, NHL Network, etc.

Okay thanks.  That actually helps a bit.  When I had the premium channels free for 3 months they made me call to cancel them or start paying for them...they were not dropped automatically.  The person I talked to did not speak English as a firstlanguage and was not very helpful in figuring out what I was left with, so I was never sure if I had the top package with one residual premium channel or not.

I'm going to call Dish tomorrow and threaten to quit.  I have been pretty lackadaisical about that, lol.
