"to pursue other coaching opportunities."

Likely to be named head coach at CMU IMO.

According to John Brice he is going to the Bucs as QB coach

Wouldn't have to recruit then. I've heard he doesn't like that aspect of the college game much.

Butch should promote Azzanni to OC, IMO.

Butch is out making visits, and I'm not thrilled at the thought of him having to turn his attention to his OC situation at this moment.  I'll be surprised if Z is not promoted.

He was primary recruiter for five guys in this class-- two are already enrolled and a third is Joc Bruce, a local kid many have been calling for the coaches us to turn loose. Sheriron Jones and Zach Stewart are the other two and Stewart is as solid as you could be.

I bet the impact will be minimal, especially if Z is promoted or a strong hire is made quickly.

I had forgotten that Z had been an OC before.
We would need a good QB coach in that case.

One question is if Z's personality is suitable for an OC.  His intensity is ok for a position coach but ...

With the HC leaving today from Central Michigan to be the OC at Arkansas and Azzanni being a grad there and coached there plus I've heard the AD at CMU really likes him we need to act quick.

With the timing today I'm not sure that Jake won't be the coach at CMU. He was in the running there the last time they made a HC hire.

RTI has a list of potential replacements.  Assuming we don't promote from within, Calvin Magee sounds like a very intriguing option.

Hearing Sonny Cumbie, CO-OC at TCU might be in play......That would be a good one.

He's inexperienced but he's done well there and he's from the Mike Leach tree, which has done really well with offenses.

Cumbie is intriguing. Patterson is a defensive guy, but TCU's offense has been fantastic. I don't like hiring a guy who coaches the HC's side of the ball (e.g., Saban's DC).

Organization and communication are more important than play calling, but I'd really like to see us under center in short yardage situations.

I think we end up making 2-3 hires on the O-staff and may end up with co-coordinators ...

Butch plays things pretty close to the vest, often using "coach speak" and other methods to divert attention.  I think the DeBord "leaks" are one such diversion, possibly with NSD connotations.

I don't think that Jake will be the only departure (I think Jake's departure was not forced but the leaking of it forced some hands relative to timing) and I'm not talking about Z possibly going to CMU.  I think post NSD there might be one other departure.

Hearing that Jancek might be in play for the CMU job? If so would he take Z as his OC?

Butch isn't going to "turn loose" Joc Bruce.  Just not going to happen for several reasons, one being that he is a very good prospect.

Joc is enrolling in June.

DeBord makes less than no sense as the OC.  He's not a spread offensive guy in any shape, form, or fashion.  He may be hired as part of the offensive staff if Azzanni takes the CMU head coaching position, but I don't see DeBord being Butch's OC.  Just doesn't fit.

If we lose Jancek and Z....

According to a published report that I saw earlier this morning the CMU head coaching job is going to pay right at $400K.  Both coordinator spots at UT pay in excess of $500K.  Both of those guys are smart enough to know the difference in those numbers, and both are smart enough to know that their path to a big time head coaching job is just as possible, if not more probable, as an OC of a Power 5 schools as it is from a MAC/mid-major school.

And to follow that up, if Janzek were to be the head coach at CMU and Azzanni took the OC job, Azzanni would be taking a serious pay cut even from where he is now as the WR coach at just over $300K.

Just don't see either leaving UT for CMU.  Doesn't make sense.
