If I was paid more money for more emails I would have retired 5 years ago and be living in Hawaii.

Computers have increased the amount of paper I deal with. When someone can generate a million pages of paper with the push of one button, they will.

since starting my side job doing freelance work, I've actually had to use my email account for the first time in over 2 years since finishing school.

Email is a staple of the workplace.

Although I could see that might vary with career, but I get literally dozens and sometimes a couple hundred  a day, unfortunately.
