Maybe that is because employers mostly pay poverty wages anymore? Why bother?

Yep, the morons in Seattle, San Francisco and other places are figuring that out - raise minimum wage to unrealistic levels and BOOM = UNEMPLOYED
You might consider reading up on margins sometime ...
Oh and the absolutely bullshizzle requirements of obamacare ...

When I went from the government side of the business to the private sector side is was an eye opening experience (BTW, the reason I switched is the government is absolutely fizzleing CLUELESS on labor force value, which might explain why the military and civil service personnel systems are run so fizzleing well

BTW, you do know the difference between U3, which is the usual estimate used in news reports and U6, which is a more realistic estimate (includes the data from the chart above)?
