The thing is, I have had sore plantar fascia myself, and the key is to stretch well.  If your calves are too tight it ends up stressing/stretching the plantar fascia (located on the back half of the heel and a bit up the leg).  I didn't believe the orthopedist when he told me that, but it's true.

Now, if Manning actually has a partial tear, that's different.  But if this is the run of the mill plantar fascia "stretched ligament", it's really not that big of a deal though it can be very painful.

Hmmmm.......

I know.  But how do you diagnose a "partial tear"?  I'm not sure an ultra-sound or MRI would even pick that up.  I am in fact questioning the seriousness of the injury, but if he is consulting a specialist in NC, it's probably pretty serious.

I've had it.....more than once. It's like walking on glass and is worse for me early in the morning.

Right.  Me too.  In my case, it's just a matter of stretching, which for an athlete would not seem that big of a deal.  OTOH, the article does mention that it can get "little tears", and if so, rest might be the best remedy.
