When you look at the salary numbers that came out it might help your understanding
My suspicion is this was planned from the get go, that he would stay though signing day to help the transition, then move on

Yep.....He signed a 2 year contract last year that will run out in a another year and his salary wasn't going to change under his current contract. IMO there was going to be a change there sooner than later.
