I want us to hire the best guy possible, of course. If that's Freeze, then we'll just deal with the media blowback when it happens. If he wins us a bunch of games, it won't matter. Winning cures all (Just ask Ohio State. Zach Who?).
That said...
Can I be honest? Really, really honest? (I've been drinking all day, so I'm going to be honest whether anyone wants to hear it not).
If we're placing THIS much weight on an assistant hire, then the problem likely isn't the assistant.
Remember our last few "big name" coordinator hires? Dave Clawson, Monte Kiffin, Bob Shoop. How did those guys work out? Yeah. They were all out the door within two years or less, along with their bosses. In fact, they all performed MUCH better at their next stops than they did here.
Meanwhile, rivals like bammer lose coordinators all the time. You think their fans sweat those hires? Of course not. They just plug in the next man up and don't miss a beat. Because they know it's the head coach's team.
Just saying. Tomorrow morning I may sober up and deny any knowledge of this post.
