Kara Lawson looks like the frontrunner for the job.

Now I like Kara. And she seems very intelligent and knowledgeable about the game. And maybe she'd succeed in the position. But this is arguably THE marquee job in WBB (and that includes the WNBA). Are we really going to hand the keys to someone with ZERO coaching experience?

We make fun of Tiger High for hiring Penny- well, this would be the EXACT same thing.

If she hired some good asst's and kept the current recruiting cord I'd have no issue with it and she'd be 3 times the coach Holly was the moment she stepped in the gym IMO. She's high profile and every recruit out there knows who she is and Kara has played on a high level and won a WNBA championship and a Olympic Gold Medal....Holly sat next to PHS for 27 years and where did that get us? Muffit isn't coming...The Baylor coach isn't coming....Waltz isn't coming and other high profile coaches aren't coming....UT is a afterthought in Women's BB right now.

With good assistants she'd probably be fine - as would half VTTW. Just don't overpay.

It's a huge gamble. If Kara succeeds, Phil looks like a genius. If she doesn't, Phil has a ton of liability to own -- much more so than with a "normal" coaching hire.

IMO it's a terrible decision.
