The below is from a macro perspective. If UT's QB for the next couple of years is already on campus it seems whatever happens with the class of 2022 at that position doesn't matter much.

If our signal caller for the next 2 or 3 years isn't already in the program we're gonna have a rough next couple of years offensively. OTOH, if a quality QB is in the fold we may be able to score some points while the defense is developed.

First of all, I have a lot of hope that the offensive staff that we have now will be much improved in the development of the QB position.

I really like film that I have seen of Hooker.  I also hope that Bailey can be developed to become a good QB.  Salter was a high priority for the last staff and hopefully he can develop into a good QB.

The General's Quarters of Volquest is currently in panic mode over the recruitment of Ty Simpson.  He announces his decision today at 3 pm eastern time.  If he chooses the good guys that is great.  If not, I hope that we have a chance with Sam Horn.  I believe that both of those young players can be developed by the current staff.

Personally, I'm much more concerned about the defensive side of the football than the offensive aspect.  I believe that this group of offensive coaches will most likely be able to put some points on the scoreboard.  The question I have is 'will we be able to stop anybody'.

I'm not too concerned with the QB room....Got Salter for 4 years....Bailey for 4 more years....Maurer for 3 more years and Hooker for 2 more years if they all stay the years they are allowed. The years of keeping many real good QB's on the roster are pretty much a thing of the past...there's only 1 football and QB's will transfer in a heartbeat.....They were saying on ESPN the other day the portal is full of QB's and WR's and those 2 positions were highly coveted in the portal... So I guess having too many QB's is a good thing.

Based on just what I've read a lot of people are more high on Horn than Simpson.....I really don't know a lot about Horn but many have said he has more upside than Simpson? I'm about 45 miles from Martin Westview where Simpson plays and have followed him quite a bit...seen him play sparingly and I'd say he's good but the competition they play in is not the best...This past season the good teams they played they lost them all and some of them they lost badly. Just hard to tell....A lot of people seem to want Simpson because they feel he will help with the 2022 instate recruiting.

I agree, Tnphil.  From what I've gathered, many folks believe that Simpson could possibly provide a spark to UT's in-state recruiting.  Other than that, much of what I have read seems to suggest that Horn may possibly be the best prospect of the two.

Excellent point about the defense JeffCo. It may take some doing to fix.

Definitely nowadays you can get a QB from the portal.  I think the odds of that happening went up a lot exponentially infinity times infiinty with Heupel in place of Pruitt.  Most QBs are intelligent enough to know that Heupel will (at least attempt) to maximize their potential.

so not a big concern for me.  What will be telling is how well our offense does this fall.

Normally I predict wins and losses and state my expectations for those.  This year, I am going to state my expectations in terms of offensive production. If we are not at least in the top half of the NCAA, we are likely in for a long 3-4 years.  I expect us to be top third.  Giving Heupel the first-year coach pass, my expectations are not greater than that.  Top half is "minimum acceptable", top third is "nominal expectation".  Anything better is "exceeds", if I was the AD giving Heupel an eval.
