It's a hard knock life... for Vols..

I hate to pile on the guy, but he never has any news anymore... all he has are opinions. He's basically just a columnist who is no more informed than a lot of us other than the fact that he can go to practice if he wants to go... and I'm not sure he's going to practice based on the way he talks.

For example... the 104.5 guys have been on Kiffin from the beginning for having physical practices. They asked Jimmy about it... obviously he's against it... He kept saying "It's risky, it's risky". That is definitely true... it's risky... but the only example he could come up with so far was Gerald Jones tweaking his hand / wrist by bracing himself when being knocked down... that's an injury that's could happen no matter how much contact you have.

They also asked him how Kiffin was handling the QBs... whether he was mentoring or yelling... and Jimmy responded by saying how he THOUGHT Kiffin should handle Crompton... not how Kiffin WAS handling Crompton. Because he plainly has no idea how Kiffin is handling anything.

I know the 104.5 guys think he is so connected, but Jimmy does no prep and pays no attention anymore. I think they should get rid of Jimmy and add another Knoxville media source... they already have Brent, maybe they could add Rob or even Basilio. At least Basilio knows what is going on.

I am glad I was not the only person who thought that.

Multiple times, Hyams was asked a direct question and he by passed it by stating how he would do it.  I would be fine with having Brent on more often.

Chip Kane is "go to" guy at Citadel Knoxville when it comes to covering practice.  I'm not sure how much anybody else, other than the News-Sentinel/Sports Page guys, actually even go to practice.

By the way, the News-Sentinel lost a damned good UT beat reporter this week.  Drew Edwards, who was the primary UT beat reporter for them, went to work for The UTAD this week.  He'll be doing PR and writing for UTSports.com .

I know Drew well.  He's a good guy and a good writer.  It is definitely the News-Sentinel's loss and UT's gain.

Just comparing the UT practice coverage with UGA's, UGA normally practices about 12 "periods" per practice.  The UGA AD usually limits media coverage to the first 3 periods only, which collectively are mostly just warm-ups.  After practice the GA media is allowed to interview CMR and, by scheduled appointment, certain assistants and players.

If the UT AD does the same, then Hyams (or even Kane) may not have the access to verify how the QBs (players) are actually being coached, until the end of practice when he may be able to interview.  Then, I would expect that it is hard to ask CLK or Reaves in a polite way if they are yelling or mentoring.  (I guess CLK could say, "What's the difference", but coach-speak may not match what a reporter observes first-hand.)

Practice is pretty much open to the media right now.  When game week gets here, however, they are going to limit it to the first part of practice, which is generally not game specific work.

The old staff limited media access to the first 30 minutes of practice, which of course, pretty much just included the stretching and warm up period.  Media was also allowed in pre-season scrimmages and post practice press conferences.

VolQuest's writers have made comments about the way the QBs are being handled.

My dislike of Hyams got to the BOILING POINT when we made the SEC Championship Game in 07 and after the win at Kentucky.........................to right before KICK-OFF all he said was that we had 0% chance of winning and that we didn't even deserve to be playing LSU, and that Georgia was the much better team and should be in Atlanta.

Maybe enough people got sick of listening to him in the right places and hopefully they are BLACK BALLING him........when I hear his voice on the VRN it just pisses me off.

There is nothing BIG ORANGE about Hyams.

It's football. The game is itself risky in nature. You can either practice to get them ready to play, or baby them and then have them not be ready. There will be bumps and bruises, and perhaps a few injuries, but the team will be tough come Sept 5.
