hey boys and girls.  After nearly a month in Kuwait, I'm finally in our little piss ant patrol base.  My battalions headquarters is located at one of the bigger FOBs (forward operations base), but we're stuck out in the middle of nowhere.  I like it that way though.  Months ago, during our pre-deployment, I packed a bunch of comfort items and stuck it in the conex soI wouldn't have to pay shipping, so I'm pretty comfortable.  Other than missing my family, I have little complaints.

As for the people of Iraq, I just don't know what to say other than I'm glad I was born in America.  You can see how life was 500 years ago by interacting with them.  The level of poverty is nothing less than sad and shocking and there is very little they can hope for.  That said, the majority is hoping that they can have a freedom "like Americans freedom".  If they can get some sort of the freedom that they are hoping for, all will not be for not.....

Glad to hear you're in a tolerable situation. The post is much appreciated. Eyes in the field are a valuable resource to those of us who care about what's what. Kudos, and know that we're all proud of you.

For all that are interested, I'm doing a special little something for my boys now that I'm online.  My two little men are 14 & 10 years old and the both let me take their favorite stuffed animals with me.  My oldest is out of the stuffed animal phase, but he still has the first one we gave him years ago and he agreed to let me take them with me.

Anyway, they are both about 6" tall.  Before I left, we went to a specialty shop on Fort Benning and bought the some field gear.  Helmets, knee pads, shirts and rifles.  The stuff looks damn near exactly like the real stuff, so the boys were excited.  With them here with me, I'm going to use them as a sort of 'flat stanleys', photographing them on my patrols and giving the boys a watered down version of the weeks events.  I hope that they will get a sense of what is going on here and learn something from my experiences instead of through biased news sources.

Dude, i just got back from Kalsu. That place was terrible. Middle of nowhere and a lot of soldiers with nothing but time on their hands. Things were pretty dim for the whole year. Hope you get one of those experiences that could be considered good, given the circumstances. I know what its like over there, so the good news is you might get a little bored. The bad news is, you might get a little bored. Take care and God Bless.

LOL, Kalsu, that's where my BN is.  I'm on the patrol base about 40km to the east north east of there.....

I like it much better here, a lot less politics and a lot more getting out on patrol.  It makes the time pass MUCH faster
