I always have a hard time getting "up" for hoops this time of year anyway, with football still in full swing.  But it's doubly tough this year with all the accusations swirling around Tyndall.  If you haven't read up on that in the past few days, it's not sounding good at all.

I haven't seen anything yet that indicates it is any worse than there is an investigation, which is bad, but that's all we know. There is a disgruntled former player, and assistant? Isn't that pretty standard in these situations? Definitely puts a damper on what I had hoped would be a fun season pointing to a better future.

I've just got this feeling that not a damn thing is going to come of this Southern Miss thing, so I'm simply not going to fret about it until there is reason to do so.

Now we're going to lose tonight and we'll lose a lot this season, but I'm still looking forward to a new era and a bunch of new faces.

That's pretty much where I stand, as well. Any enthusiasm I had about this season has been snuffed out. Regardless of whether anything comes of the Southern Miss investigation, we now know that Tyndall has been wrapped up in NCAA wrongdoings at both of his two previous stops. I just hope we aren't lying with a dog that's gonna give us fleas.

The only issue that I am concerned with is that Tyndal admittedly was involved in a similar situation when he was coaching at Morehead State.  If the NCAA has any proof that he was involved, or even knew that it was happening, at Southern Miss then he is a repeat offender and his goose is cooked.

We'll see how it all plays out.  I tend to side with those of you who believe that there isn't much to it other than a disgruntled former assistant, but this former assistant was reportedly on the UT campus back in the summer speaking to the team (he is apparently now a motivational speaker) and he was in Tyndal's wedding just a few weeks ago.  That would lead to the question of whether he is really a "disgruntled former assistant" or if he was honestly answering questions asked of him by the NCAA?

Just an odd situation, and we all know that the NCAA doesn't have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt as they would in a court of law.

I just think there's no way to predict what the NCAA will do these days. The UNC situation would be absolutely stunning except that it's not unprecedented. We're seeing years and years of fake classes, academic fraud, players even complaining they were cheated out of an education-- and not a damn thing is going to be done about it.

Of course, they've never let up like that on UT-- so who knows what happens if there's fire to go with the smoke.

Given our luck, I expect them to beat VCU tonight.  They'll run the table out of conference and get off to a quick start in SEC play, reach the top 10 or top 5.  The fans will be jacked like we haven't seen like Pearl's heyday.  And then around late February or early March, our "friends" in Indy will lower the boom.

Blame the administration. They hired him and had to know of these situations at his past gigs. Sounds a lot like Calipari, leaving programs in turmoil. Walks like a Duck..... I honestly didn't realize he had all this baggage.

UT did check on him before they hired CDT. They checked with the NCAA and Southern Miss to find out if he had any problems and was cleared by both.

This isn't UT's fault and any issues will be on DT and not UT. Of course we might be looking for another coach but that remains to be seen.

Just a guess but IMO this will blow over.

Apparently the UT sports website lied to me. It says that the Lady Vols play at 7:00 on SEC Network. But UF is playing William & Mary and it's at halftime. Anyone know the scoop?

Then again, maybe not. Down 18 at the half.

All of the alleged infractions against Tyndall didn't happen after he was hired by UT. Who was lying...Tyndall, the school or the NCAA or all of the above?

The NCAA is fangless these days, in spite of Mark Emerich having a rep of lowering the hammer.   I have a theory about that....

If you look back a year or so Miami was caught red handed, in a big way.  Keep in mind though, that many feel it's time to actually pay the players something.  One vocal advocate of that is none other than the President of the USA himself (who one would think had more important matters to jaw about, but....).

So the NCAA got hammered on some technicality with the Feds.  They sat in on a deposition of the imprisoned Miami alum and apparently violated some federal rule or other.  I suppose the Feds can always say someone violated something or other....they have SO MANY rules.

And who is the President of Miami?  Donna Shalala...Secretary of Health and Human Services under Clinton.  Politically connected to whatever Federal judge or Attorney General or whatever hammered the NCAA for sitting in on the deposition.  Not to mention the Administration would love to do her a favor since the President thinks NCAA athletes should be paid anyway.

So that's my theory...politically the NCAA has more or less been told by the Feds to back off, because their is such a big move to pay the players.  Which is a damn shame, IYAM.

And reading that article, it does sound like a serious case of NCAA over-reach, but at the same time I have no doubt that Shalalah has political connections and very likely used them.

Regardless of the pros and cons of the NCAA's botched investigation of Miami, it has clearly limited their ability to lower the hammer.  I think Emerich should step down.  He's a close personal friend of Saban, so that would make me tremendously happy.
