26  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Is the meetup in Knoxville this Friday still on? on: August 29, 2016, 04:43:37 EDT
Jethro...replied to the original thread, so it should be at the top now. Asking for replies from those that could still make it now that everyone knows their schedules.
27  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Possible Get-Together This Friday on: August 29, 2016, 04:42:40 EDT
Jethro's post reminded me to post something about a potential get-together this Friday that was discussed a few months ago. Here is the original thread. We talked about possibly getting together this Friday, September 2nd, at 4pm at The Casual Pint in Hardin Valley. If you are still interested in going, please reply to this since everyone's schedules are clearer at this point than they were months ago. If enough is interested, I can contact them and reserve their meeting room for a couple of hours. If not enough people are coming, but a few are, we can still meet there and chat.

Looks like nothing will get done around my house that entire first Saturday.
29  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So how many of you hillbillies are going to the Battle at Bristol? on: August 16, 2016, 07:47:36 EDT
Judging on the tickets I've been offered, I'm thinking there are several who are having second thoughts. The experience would be neat but I'm watching this one from home, if for no other reason than what Vinnie mentioned (traffic).

One of the main reasons I am going is I have a couple of seats on a chartered bus there and back. I can at least catch some ZZZs in the line to get out. I've also been to Bristol races and traffic is nightmarish at best. So, I would understand anyone not going because of that. Most of who I know are going will be camping Friday and Saturday nights to avoid the imminent traffic mess.

you went to school where boy?

Hehe...I was hoping to bait some of y'all. I do plan on going as of now. Got two tix and hope to be there the majority of that Saturday. I'm as interested in seeing the game on the large screen suspended in the middle of the track as I am to be there. It'll be interesting.

Staying all day there? Is Emeril setting up a tailgate there?
32  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Just curious. What do you perceive to be the Vols of 2016 biggest weakness? on: August 15, 2016, 10:12:03 EDT
From an outsiders POV, and I hope I don't get virtually kicked in the groin for this one, I see it as coaching. The talent is there, the experience is there and UT just seems to be ready for the next level. I think the main thing that could hold  y'all back this year is coaching. I like Butch, I really do. But some of his decision making last year was questionable. I think he learns from that and applies it this year. I seriously think you guys don't lose more than 2 games this year and have a more than 50/50 shot at going undefeated.  On paper, you guys should coast into the ATL this year for the SECCG. It'll be up to coaches and team leadership (which I think you guys have) to keep focused through the year.
33  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Sunday on Sportscenter: The Inky Johnson Story on: August 15, 2016, 10:08:42 EDT
I had the privilege a couple of years ago to be at a small church at a (very small) men's conference that Inky spoke at. Was able to meet him and talk for a few minutes with him. You guys have the benefit of some great ambassadors. Inky is right up there with any of them. What an awesome dude he is.
34  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Netflix rec... on: August 02, 2016, 07:54:37 EDT
Want another good Netflix rec? Stranger Things. Those of you who haven't seen it and are a fan of 80s era movies like Poltergeist, ET, Firestarter,Stand By Me, IT, etc. should really enjoy this show. Only 1 season with 8 episodes. I started watching it last night at 6pm and didn't/couldn't stop until I finished all 8 of them. Nostalgic and entertaining, IMO.
35  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Coastal Carolina wins the CWS on: July 01, 2016, 03:13:13 EDT
Congrats to them!!!!

And here at UT.....we can't win just 1 game in the SEC tourney.

Wait....there is an SEC tourney?!?! I need to inform my insiders at Auburn about this. It appears we know nothing about any post-season play.
36  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Pat's gone. Gonna be a rough few days in Big Orange Country. on: June 28, 2016, 02:48:44 EDT
Indeed it will be. You certainly didn't have to be a VFL or UT supporter to appreciate and admire Coach Summitt. Having three girls who plays sports, I can appreciate the impact she had on putting a focus and importance on girls sports. To coach with the intensity she did and still have her players and coaches lover her and keep a relationship with her beyond their time at UT speaks volumes of not only her priorities, but her insistence that everyone do everything with excellence. I think she could be considered to be in the top 3 all time of being able to get the absolute best out of her players. She always made people better. R.I.P. Coach.
37  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Knox area VTTWers: late summer / fall camp Happy Hour? on: June 17, 2016, 02:33:36 EDT
I am still interested. I could pay for 1 hour if needed.

And I'll cover at least one hour, too, if needed.
38  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Knox area VTTWers: late summer / fall camp Happy Hour? on: June 16, 2016, 09:11:13 EDT
So...bringing this back to the top. We seem to have anywhere from 6 - 8 that could make it that Friday, September 2nd from 4pm - ?? at the Casual Pint Hardin Valley here in Knoxville.. I checked with Casual Pint and it is $35/hour to reserve the big room. Plus, any other costs if we bring in any food to have for dinner. Everyone still interested? If so, I'd be more than happy to call Casual Pint and book that room ahead of time.

Everyone still interested?
39  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Knox area VTTWers: late summer / fall camp Happy Hour? on: June 02, 2016, 04:00:30 EDT
OK: Friday, September 2nd at 4pm at the Hardin Valley Casual Pint [/url](http://hardin-valley.thecasualpint.com/) . If this works out, I can call ahead to see if we can get the bigger room and possibly arrange for some food to be brought in. We can stay until they kick us out or the first one passes out, whichever comes first.
40  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I was thinking this morning on: June 01, 2016, 08:48:16 EDT
About when we had VTTW's 10th anniversary party at the lake with TRO's family. It struck me that the 10 years between the board inception and that party seemed like forever (to me). But the 8 years between that party and now have been a blink of an eye.

Wow...can't believe it was 8 years ago. That means I had a 2 year old and a newborn at that party, and made the trip down from MI. I now have a 10, 8 and 6 year old, and can do that trip in about 25 minutes or so.

Friday, September 2nd at 4pm. Suggestions on location? There are any number of Casual Pints around the area that has great beer selection. Or any area bars.
42  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Knox area VTTWers: late summer / fall camp Happy Hour? on: May 27, 2016, 08:20:15 EDT
Oh crap. I forgot they moved that to a Thursday night. Ok...how about that Wednesday, August 31st at the same time? Or would that Friday, September 2nd at 4pm work? By Friday, I will be willing to drink a few so I can already forget about Klempson beating the crap out of us the next day.
43  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Give me your top 5 superhero movies on: May 27, 2016, 07:16:48 EDT
Mine:

1. The Dark Knight - still my all time favorite. Ledger played the Joker role to perfection, IMO.
2. Superman: The Movie (Christopher Reeve) - may be a bit nostalgia for me, but I've always loved that movie.
3. Ironman - Agree with an earlier comment about RDJ being a perfect fit for that character.
4. The Avengers - Hard to have a great movie with multiple superheros as the main characters. This one pulled it off, IMO.
5. Captain America: Winter Soldier - Almost put this at #4. Great movie

One of my favorite movies that may not fit into this category is Unbreakable, with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. It's a M. Night Shyamalan movie, but unlike most of his crapfests, it's pretty good. Again, this probably doesn't fit into this category, but may be considered a 'superhero' movie of sorts.
44  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Knox area VTTWers: late summer / fall camp Happy Hour? on: May 27, 2016, 06:08:56 EDT
So, given all the replies, how would the evening of Thursday, September 1st work for everyone? Happy Hour somewhere, starting around 4 and lasting until we have convinced Jethro to pay for the entire tab? How does that sound to everyone?
45  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Knox area VTTWers: late summer / fall camp Happy Hour? on: May 20, 2016, 08:44:10 EDT
Hope a few of y'all can make it. As CO, said, late August may be the best time. Anyone and everyone welcomed. If it'll help, I'll buy the first round, as long as the words 'Bud' and 'Light' are in the type of beer

47  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Soooo....y'all's old pal Lane is the rumor du jour on the intertubes. on: September 24, 2015, 08:29:04 EDT
If any of the wild ones are true (oh please, please let it be that he nailed Nick's daughter), the internet will blow up.
48  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Simple question...Do you believe this team will beat the Sooners. Yes or no? on: August 11, 2015, 10:18:28 EDT
I don't want to hear any maybe's. If you had to bet a months pay on the game, would you go for the Vols straight up. I would have to say yes. It's only money. I will add this... this seasons team is as big a question mark as any in the past few few years. Are we as good as we think? We shall see. it only takes a few bad plays to be 5-7 again.

From an outsiders perspective....yes. And it will be your D that wins the game, IMO. From what I can see, they have turned the corner and have the potential to shut the Sooners down. Hope you guys destroy em.
49  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Congrats, congrats, congrats. on: November 02, 2014, 04:39:11 EST
Long time coming. Dobbs and Hurd looked incredible. There's your team of the future. Good on ya, mates. Incredible win!

Just teasing MIAUTIGER.....was hoping the reverse mojo might help...but nope!

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Oh I know. Didn't mean to torpedo. I know how frustrating seasons like these are. BTW, Hurd is a good un. And Dobbs is starting to come around. I was hoping for a Vol win tonight.
