Yeah. Heaven forbid anyone disagree with the Big Orange mob mentality. I'm embarrassed to be a Vols fan lately, and it has nothing to do with Butch Jones, football losses, or the UTAD.  Legion of the miserable, indeed.

All these big names being thrown around are nice. But most of you are just setting yourself up for disappointment.
This. There is nothing in Tennessee's football program history that leads me to believe any "big name" football coach will come to Knoxville.  Majors was the biggest, coming off a national championship at Pitt, but I think he may have had a little bit off a previous tie to the university.   Tennessee has great facilities but requires national recruiting ability, and that's not a common trait. Absent an existing relationship with the school or area, I'm just not sure what the attraction would be to an established coach.  It's not a matter of who we think would be great; it's a matter of who would come to Knoxville rather than going somewhere easier (and without bankrupting the AD).
78  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Georgia vs. Tennessee - TRO Family Tailgate on: September 29, 2017, 10:05:25 EDT
It's a 3:30 p.m. kickoff, but we should be set up pretty early, probably by 7:30 a.m. or so, and we'll also tailgate after the game.  Please feel free to join in, especially if you are a visiting Georgia fan and/or VTTW poster/lurker.    Below is a map showing the location.  We are set up right behind the UTAD tailgate area (between their large orange and white canopy and the building) and we're using a couple Coleman canopies that are Smokey Gray (two canopies).    Stop in and say hello and share some of the food and drinks.  There is no need to bring anything unless you want something in particular or just want to bring something to share.  "The Grillman" will be making an appearance at this one, and we'll be cooking steak sandwiches and Italian Sausage.  We're still deciding on breakfast food for the morning.  We also generally bring cookies and chips/dip.    So, stop in and have fun!

80  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Did anyone see Dobbs NFL debut? on: August 14, 2017, 01:40:22 EDT
Didn't anything but end when Dobbs benched.

Stat line kind of meh...7/15 for 100 yds, but no to and won, even tho it was an exhibiiton.
He threw one interception.  It was either a horribly under thrown pass, the receiver ran the wrong route, or he threw to the wrong route.

What concerns me though, is his starting HS

Tell me about it.  TROlo graduates next year.

Oh, and he also received four 8th Grade awards at the end of the school year: President's Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence; Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement in Physical Education; Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement in Civics; and Award of Excellence for Outstanding SOL Performance, Civics and Economics  (State Testing Perfect Score).

...and Pirate, I'm staring in your direction, he has been playing lacrosse since only 2015, and for the past two summers he has participated in the Millon Lacrosse Camp -- http://millonlacrosse.com.  Mark Millon is a lacrosse Hall of Fame player and has been running the camp for about 23 years.  My son had a great season in club lacrosse this year, and he's planning to play in high school next season.  Anyway, this year he has been invited to the Millon Elite event -- http://millonlacrosse.com/special-focus/millon-elite/.

"The Millon Elite experience is an invite-only, weekend-long event for the best-of-the-best players that have attended one of our summer sessions. This camp will be led by Mark Millon and our best instructors, and present an amazing opportunity for highly skilled players to maximize their potential and reach the highest level possible. We will use a great deal of video analysis using iPads to study and improve body mechanics and technique. Our goal will be to focus on the three or four skills that will allow each player to dominate at the NCAA level."

We are super proud of him, so I wanted any of you who know him to know how he's doing.

@gmannVOLS

Hyams says UT may not hire an AD until May, 256 days after Hart's announced retirement

NASA estimates a trip to Mars would take 260 days

I assume that means 256 days after Hart announced his retirement (although I think the math is off a bit).  But, if UT officials are contacting people now, what does it matter?  Hart's retirement is effective June 30, 2017.  As long as someone is hired before that, is there really an issue?  For all we know, someone has been contacted and reached an agreement in principle but does not want it announced yet.  In any event, I am not bothered in the least, regardless of the reasons.
87  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Looks like Debord is gone? on: January 03, 2017, 07:45:32 EST
I've got a feeling he was gone after this season anyway.

Everything I've read indicates what Pirate said above; he was going to retire but then the Indiana job opened up. So, he gets to go home and work a bit longer.  Win-win for him.
88  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Boosters apparently still with Jones on: December 10, 2016, 01:14:58 EST
Sorry, but not all of us Vol fans drink the kool-aid every time.

Yep, one trick pony.  Not everyone who may disagree with you is drinking "the kool-aid."  If they are, then you lead the pack in drinking "the kool-aid" of those who see only what they want to see and want Jones gone.  It cuts both ways.  Get the hell off your high horse and start acting like an adult. At least others who want Jones gone can express themselves without feeling the need (perhaps compulsion) to denigrate others. It's a childish trait and serves no purpose other than feeding the narcissism of the writer. If you feel compelled to continue, have at it.  But, I refuse to sit back and let it go unchecked. It's not good for this board community.

Instead of rejecting 5500+ bogus registrations and accepting one valid registration, apparently I accepted the 5500+ and rejected the one.     That one legitimate registration ("cityvol") ended up getting caught up in the mass deletions I just completed.  Hopefully, I can get that corrected.  Sorry.

Real, she just wants more money from you.  Just remember that old saying you can catch more flys with honey than with vinegar. It is always more effective to be polite than demeaning.

Actually, the reason I contacted the office was to let them know they had under charged me for the last payment of my 2016 pledge.  Then we started talking about our family tailgate and all my family members and friends who go, and she just blurted it out.  I just laughed and thanked her.     I think she was simply happy I was pleasant and wasn't complaining about their now horrible online site. She even told me I should complain.  I  think she appreciated my honey and not vinegar.

92  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The last "big name" head coach to come to Tennessee... on: November 30, 2016, 01:12:20 EST
Here is my opinion. Jones needs to go. With him as the coach we going to be a like a Geico commercial. We are 8-4. It's what we do. If we played an offense like Clemson, they would put a 100 on us. This is all that has to be said: Vandy has beaten us three of the last five years, if I recall right. Mason beat UGa and UT and only lost by 6 to UF with way less talent. I just shake my head at most of you now who said I was trolling. Some of you think you know so much about football. You know who you are. Who couldn't see after the Appy and Ohio games that something was off with this team. I knew it was just a matter of time until the downward spiral would come. Hindsight is a great advantage. If this team was coached well it probably could have finished 11-1. Bama is the only game that the Vols should have lost. The turnovers cost the aTm game. As it turns out, they were a very beatable team. Last year was the same way. A better coached team would have probably  been 11-1 as well. But the million dollar question is...if not Jones then who? I just hope we don't draw a high scoring offensive team in the bowl game. It could get ugly. The schedule doesn't get more favorable than this years was, so I ask you if Jones couldn't win the east this year when do you think he ever would?

You're a one trick pony.  Blah, blah, blah.  Lay some more truth and objectivity on us.  Oh wait, don't do that.  We can't handle it.  Learn all the lyrics, not just the chorus.
93  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Just curious. What do you perceive to be the Vols of 2016 biggest weakness? on: November 30, 2016, 01:08:03 EST
I didn't say it at the time because some here lose their minds, but one of the biggest weaknesses was roaming the sidelines with headphones on.

Right, you held your tongue. What a joke!
94  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Marvin West pulls no punches on Butch on: November 30, 2016, 01:05:33 EST
Same with most on here Herb. They can't handle the truth and don't want to listen to any objectivity. It is just too funny to tell folks here what they don't want to hear. Their heads almost explode.

What a complete joke!  Who made you or anyone else here the guardians or arbiters of "the truth" and "objectivity"?  The truth is that you and many others like to think your OPINIONS are the one and only "truth," and that being negative or bashing the "establishment" somehow constitutes being "objective."  What a crock of unadulterated BS.  All your "truth" and "objectivity" usually adds up to meaningless drivel and is rarely worthy of serious consideration.  I have no idea what the substance of this thread is, but your comments convince me that it doesn't matter.  Those comments display complete ignorance coupled with over inflated self-importance -- a losing combination.
95  Sports / VTTW Message Board / The last "big name" head coach to come to Tennessee... on: November 27, 2016, 06:24:05 EST

...was Johnny Majors. Why Tennessee fans believe the program can attract and retain a big name, big time head coach escapes me. I'm looking at some of the names being thrown around, and I'm thinking that some wouldn't come to Tennessee in a million years; I wouldn't trust most of them to do any better than Jones; some I'd flat out stop supporting the program (not that the UTAD would miss my donations or 10 season tickets); and a couple might be ok and do better. I guess it doesn't much matter to me though. I went to just three games this season, and one was in Bristol for the spectacle. Another was due to the tailgate being my nephew's surprise engagement party. I didn't watch any of the games on TV. I just don't enjoy it (or any sports) much any more, although I love the tailgating and seeing family and friends. I'm not sure what 2017 will bring for me, but I doubt Tennessee football will be much of a part of it.  Life goes on.  Let the coaching carousel go round and round!
96  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Any of you guys ever drive the Tail of the Dragon?.... on: November 23, 2016, 02:01:47 EST

I've riden it a couple times on my '94 Harley Softail. I think I had more scrapped foot boards on those rides than any over rides I've done combined.  It's fun, but a bit nerve-racking.
97  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The comedic value of Butch's "champions of life" comment is real on: November 22, 2016, 11:20:06 EST

Fulmer was the same way, and Majors was the king of silly speak.  But, they said it with southern accents Vols fans could accept as homey and familiar.  If they had said the same thing in slightly different words, it would have been a non issue.  I couldn't care less, and understand what Jones meant (as did Josh Dobbs, much more eloquently than I can express).  Jones needs to shore up his staff and develop as a head coach.  If he does that, and starts consistently winning 9+ games per regular season, cliche away!
98  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: UT has it's new chancellor on: November 22, 2016, 11:09:42 EST
In fact, one of the first things Dickey did was let Majors go.  A coach that was the spitting image of "good, but not good enough".  IMO.

Hmmmmm....

First things?  Dickey was the AD at Tennessee from 1985 to 2002 (at least I think so).  Since Majors wasn't let go until midseason in 1992, does that mean Dickey was just sitting around doing nothing for 7 years?
99  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Does CBJ really think that we are that stupid? on: November 20, 2016, 08:45:58 EST

It seems to me there are two different issues: (1) did the coaches and team talk about winning the east during the week leading up to the Missouri game; and (2) did the coaches and team talk about winning the east prior to the season and when winning the east was within their control?  I can believe they did not do the first, as it was totally out of their hands. I cannot believe they did not do the second, as they are on record as having championships as a goal. Exactly which was he addressing?  From context, it seems to be the first.
