Title: Music: We were having this discussion at work yesterday Post by: Black Diamond Vol on March 12, 2014, 05:46:49 EDT How many songs can you name that were later covered by their original artist? The only stipulation is, the cover version has to have been a new, studio recording. So no "remixes", and no live recordings (the unplugged version of "Layla" for example). I haven't tried to look it up yet, but we could only come up with four:
"25 or 6 to 4", Chicago "After Midnight", Eric Clapton "Don't Stand So Close To Me", The Police "Polly", Nirvana Any others? McCartney redid several of his old Beatles songs in the studio years ago in the eighties: Eleanor Rigby Here, There and Everywhere For No One Long and Winding Road BG Title: Re: Music: We were having this discussion at work yesterday Post by: tnflower on March 15, 2014, 12:43:05 EDT Would Hotel California by the Eagles count?

I don't think they did another studio version, did they? Title: Re: Music: We were having this discussion at work yesterday Post by: BGHarper on March 15, 2014, 01:46:44 EDT Would Hotel California by the Eagles count? Speaking of "Hotel California," I know there are some Eagles fans here as I remember a thread about them. I didn't realize until recently that Don Felder wrote the music for that song, and Henley and Frye only wrote most of the lyrics. I also didn't know he was a southern guy from Gainesville Fl. and while very young taught Tom Petty to play guitar. He also played in a band as a teen that included Stephen Stills and later original Eagles member Bernie Leadon. As a teen he knew Duane Allman and Allman taught him how to play slide. Sounds as if he caught a raw deal from Henley and Frye when he was fired after wanting to see just how much the band was making, and he deserved to know as he was a full member of the group and not a paid employee as Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmit. Never mind though as he got a big settlement after suing both.
