I have heard some rumblings from a couple of respected people that Bob Stoops would be next in line.

I think we all need to resign ourselves to the fact that either Derek Dooley or Kirby Smart is going to be our coach next year.

Murfvol thinks there is no way we go the unproven route. That having been said we could do worse (please note I can think of many better options) than hiring Ellis Johnson or Randy Shannon as DC and keeping Dooley.

Y'all know I'm calling Petrino if Gruden says no. Then I'm calling Strong and Patterson. There shouldn't be a need for Plan E.

If all they can do is another unproven assistant coach, then keep Dooley

Agree with that.

So do I.  I hope I am completely wrong but we all know that NEVER happens.

No, they're quite well known among people that keep up with message boards, and I haven't heard BS from them before.  That being said I think Gruden will get several chances to say Yes.

He wouldn't.  It would be to give the appearance that we are going after the best.  Like Foley circa 2002....

Agree, Don't think there's any way Stoops would leave OU. Now, Stoops might want to give the impression he would think of leaving OU to get a raise.

I've heard rumblings that he might take his act to the pros. Don't remember where it was but it may have been Brandon Whitlock. If so then you know it's dependable.

I don't want Stoops and why would he leave OU for UT unless it is to get away from the bevo conference.  He looks tired, a lot like Fulmer did at the end.

Meh. Next to Mark Richt, there aren't many who have done less with more than Stoops. Plus I don't think I could tolerate the constant whining. If we're going to gun for the unrealistic just because they're "big names," let's go after Petersen.

My thoughts exactly! The only one I can think of who's done maybe even less with so much is mack brown. Peterson, by all means.

I am probably in the minority, but I would take Stoops over Gruden.

While anything is possible - I personally don't expect to keep Kirby for much longer - but - I also don't expect that any SEC school, including UGA where he's from - will give someone their first HC gig.  I think that Charlie Strong may wind up at Auburn, or even UT (never know) - or Kentucky - he'll land somewhere - I also think Butch Jones from Cincinnati will be snatched up by a bigger school - and Kirby Smart will probably be offered the HC at one of those schools - a lower level D1 program, where he can prove his mettle and then find his way into an SEC, Big 10, or Big 12 kind of gig.
