I just can't belive it. Like everyone has said, AJ has never been in trouble except for the party incident. I don't understand college athletes these days. First of all, you get everything you want and you get your college education for free but I guess what I don't understand is that most of these guys that are doing crap like this these days don't have to. I mean they are famous football guys...they could have their pick of about 100 ladies but I guess there is the problem....they think they are above everyone else. I just will never get it with that kind of stuff. If someone says no, then it means no. It sucks for everyone involved...the ladies, the fans who have been through alot in the past 5 years, and it sucks for AJ although he put him in this situation, but the week of his "senior week" at Neyland Stadium.

Even according to Hubbs, Dobbs had not show anything in practice like he is playing. Most coaches think you play like you practice, but there are some who play a lot better when "the lights are on". Maybe Dobbs is one of those.
Like you said, it was against South Carolina's defense but he also did it against bama's D who was given up normally 0 in the rushing game...so that gives me hope. Also, the rest of the teams we face don't have that great of defenses anyway. Missouri is o.k. but not great. But neither 3 teams we have left have great offenses either. If we score in the 30's...I like our chances.
Also, you look at the game, and neither North or Malone were playing much. Imagine what that offense does if you have a fill array of your receiving crops? If you are a TE, I would be drooling because they have a chance to get a ton of balls thrown there way.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Honestly folks, which remaining opponents besides Vandy do you think we beat?
|
on: October 21, 2014, 07:50:11 EDT

119 yards of total offense for Missouri in that game. That game said much more about Florida than it did about Missouri. Yes, their defense is very good (one of the big reasons why they routed Muschamp), but it isn't as good as Florida's defense or Ole Miss's defense. And to be honest, their offense doesn't worry me in the least. It's not a given that we beat 'em, but we'll have our chances.
Geez Creek, it is like you are inside my head! I have said the same things you said above and earlier to some friends of mine. We are exactly where we thought we would be. The UF game sucked, yes, but I have never seen a fan base turn on one game. Before that game, people were thinking the sky is the limit. After that game, they said we would be lucky to go 4 - 8! The truth probably is somewhere in the middle, which is exactly where people said we would be this year. Most people said 6 - 6 would be great. Well we can still get there. If you look at the November schedule, none of those teams have great defenses and most don't have good offenses. I think our D will keep us in every one of those games. You look at the November schedule: South Carolina - their D has been giving up yards like crazy this year. I still don't see how they beat UGA, but outside of that game, they looked awful against A &M, had to stretch to beat ECU, gave up a boat load of yards to UK. Against Furman last week, they gave up 211 yards rushing. Their Offense is good but not great. I think our DB's can cover their receivers and their running game isn't great. Missouri - which Misouri team shows up? The one against Indiana where they looked bad or the one against UGA where they looked awful? The UF game was misleading becasue if you look at the box score, they had 119 total yards and their QB was 6 for 18 for 20 total yards. Geez! UK - everyone was in love with UK before last week but I kept saying I didn't see it. Sure they looked better but look at their 5 -1 schedule. They beat UTM and Ohio. Ohio they led 14 - 3 after one and only beat them 20 - 3 and the next week Ohio lost to Mashall by something like 50 - 0. Beat vandy 17 - 7 and didn't score in the seonced half. Beat Lousiana Monroe. They lost to UF, same as us. Beat South Carolina but was trailing by 14 in the 4th and spurrier refused to run the ball to run the clock. And then got hammered at LSU and made LSU's offense look great...which is hard to do...while only gaining 220 yards against a defense that was giving up a boat load of yards. UK ends the season with: home against Miss state (loss), at Missouri (??), home against UGA (loss), at UT, and at Louisville. They will be fighting to get to 6 - 6 like us. vandy - enough said.

That was a bad team that we crapped the bed against. They will not do well the rest of the year, but our frustrations continue.
Butch needs to evaluate Bajakian. That was some pitiful stuff today.
The question is did you think Butch needed to evaluate Bajakian after we put 32 points on the board against UGA? I would guess probably not. We had a bad game. Let's see how the rest of the games play out before we start calling for coaching changes. If we avg 32 points per game the rest of the year, we will end up with a good record. If we avg 9 points a game the rest of the year, we will have a bad record and then we can say changes need to be made.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: SEC OFFICIATING
|
on: October 07, 2014, 06:45:05 EDT

I've said it every week this season: SEC officiating sucks. There were several blatant misses today. No point in hashing them out; someone would call it sour grapes or say I'm trying to excuse our team's poor play. I'm not. But it's pretty sad when our head coach has to instruct the officials on how to conduct their business at the end of the half.
When the official turned towards the wrong side of the press box to make the first call and then had to turn around, I just lowered my head and said that doesn't give me good feelings. Then when our coach has to tell them how to mark off a call, I really didn't get warm feelings about them. I agree that there were several no calls. However, we lost the game, not the refs. The UF's field goal would have been good from another 5 yards back. He kicked the heck out of the ball.

Wasn't impressed with the play calling at all, especially in the red zone..Was like Randy Sanders was back in the booth..Two interceptions by our D set up 1st and 10 in the red zone and they come out throwing the ball on 1st down..The first ends up in a turn over in the end zone...had they ran it 3 times and settled for the fg we win...Am tired of "Moral Victories" I think it is unfair to say a FG wins us the game because that was at the start of the 2nd half and you have no idea how the game would have gone going forward from that point. Also, why run the ball when we couldn't gain any yards on the ground yesterday? I agree with Herb, you throw it where only your receiver can get it. That is why I don't understand why we didn't throw several fades in those situations. We threw 1 and it looked like Pass Interference as our WR couldn't get his other arm up, but we should have tried it more than once.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: One game is enough to determine Butch Jones' abilities?
|
on: October 06, 2014, 04:22:17 EDT

Wow, this thread has a little bit of everything in it...from people comparing head coaches to people wanting coaches fired after one game! I think the answer lies in the middle somewhere.
First of all, I was so mad leaving the stadium. To lose to that UF team makes me sick. However, everyone said going into the season that we would be a 5-7, 6-6, 7-5 team and that 7 -5 would be the best we could do. That is still a possibility. Also, people said that we would win some we shouldn't and lose some we shouldn't because of the team's youth. They will make mistakes. I am not ready to call for coach's heads or say we suck and can't score another offensive TD against anyone else besides Vandy. I think some things need to be adjusted. I think we have to start using TE's to help block. We also have to go to more slants and short developing routes instead of the 7 step drops and slow developing plays downfield.
I still don't understand the play calling inside the 20 saturday. I can understand not running because we weren't gaining yards. But on the Worley interception (which was off his back foot AND north fell down), you fake the jet sweep, roll worley to his right and throws to the center of the field in the end zone. Why do you not take a 3 step drop and throw several fades to the corner of the end zone and let your 6'4 receivers go up and get the ball. It is either a TD or an incomplete pass and you save several hits on your QB. The coaches have to adjust the sheme for the lack of an o-line. Also, the behind the line of scrimmage throws need to stop.
However, the people that are saying we won't score another TD except against Vandy just don't realize how bad the East is. South Carolina is just plain BAD. Up 14 with 13 mins to play and Spurrier refuses to run the ball. Also, I am not sold on UK just yet. They have improved but they also haven't played anyone. Missouri couldn't score against that BAD south carolin D so I don't know about Missouri yet either.

I will be wearing my standard ORANGE, as droner says "as I always do", no matter the desired color of my section
I am in a white section and at first I thought the same thing as you did that I would wear orange because that's what I always wear. However, after listening to Butch and the players ask the fans to do this and seem excited about the possibility, I thought why not!!! These kids are busting their tails out on the field and fighting. If they think this will be "cool" and "exciting" why not support it. I know it won't make us win or lose but if they are giving their all for Tennessee and want the fans to do this, why would you not want to do this?

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: UF game will be a noon kickoff**
|
on: September 22, 2014, 08:51:40 EDT

A buddy of mine was talking about this earlier. I didn't really give it much thought but the early time slots use to be Big 10 and ACC time slots. With those two conferences being awful, the Noon eastern spot needed a kick start. You want to have viewers all day. So put UT/UF at Noon to get people to start watching and you basically have viewers all day. South Carolina and UK at night won't draw much viewers but that is when other big games are going on. Let's not forget that ESPN now has the SEC Network, ABC, and ESPN to gain viewers from.
As a fan, I don't like the early games but I can understand it from the viewership standpoint. I didn't expect the CBS time slot due to the UF/UT game being several weeks later than normal this year and Ole Miss/Bama will be two teams in the top 10. CBS was going to carry that one. I fully expect CBS to pick up UT/Bama. I hate early kick-offs from a tailgating standpoint.

I just saw that too. How is South Carolina at UK a better night game than UT/UF? Also, ESPN is only carrying one sec game at night that week...who else plays that week? Ole Miss/Bama I get for the CBS game.

From watching early SEC games, I honestly don't know besides Bama and Ole Miss another team that will have as active of a front 7 as last night. You look around in the East and there are problems everywhere:
- UT - Yes, the o-line is the problem this year. The D is playing well for the most part. - South Carolina - which Carolina shows up...the one against A&M and East Carolina where anyone could move the ball at well against them? - UGA - defensive problems all over - UF - I watched the UK RB reverse field on UF D and that was not as good of a D as UF has had recently. - Missouri - who knows....they haven't played anyone with a pulse yet. - UK - still have to prove it to me to believe they are that much better in one year. - Vandy - enough said
Worley threw some incredible passes last night. I honestly think we have a fighting chance in the UF game, UGA, Missouri, and Carolina.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Vandy getting spanked
|

Vandymania was funny as heck this morning. Before the game, Mason was the greatest coach ever and was going to take the SEC by storm. After all, he was a genius about how to stop a spread offense and Stanford was great at taking 2 and 3 star prospects and making them good. Today, Mason doesn't know how to coach, is in over his head in the SEC, can't develop players, his offense doesn't work, etc etc. I love it!
I know teams can improve from game to game but from what I saw last night:
- Vandy doesn't have a QB - Vandy doesn't have a running game outside their #1 RB and he was ok - Vandy doesn't have any WR - Vandy is weak at secondary
All this is funny because everyone told them they lost their whole secondary, their best WR in the history of vandy, but they had plenty of talent waiting to take the field. They will struggle to move the ball against Ole Miss next week. Ole Miss D is very very tough and their O-Line could not protect their QB's last night.

Agree...I don't put much stock in these "expert picks" until about the 3rd week of the season. People have no idea how teams look until you have a couple of games under their belts. After about the 3rd week, then they are usually better good indicators.

Wayne, Bruce is doing what he does - he's a winner. He will have Auburn winning the west soon. Not this year, but soon. Of course the west sucks... but...
I'm good with our coach though. Best of luck.
Didn't the SEC start going to a top to bottom ranking in basketball and did away with the East vs West standings? I know our schedule last year was weird and not the traditional play each east school twice and west school once.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: SEC decides to keep 8 games, mandates "power game"
|
on: April 28, 2014, 08:43:18 EDT

People will always find stuff to complain about. One day it is tradition and rivalry games, next day it is about who hasn't faced who in so many years and who has the upper hand. The problem with the 9 game SEC schedule is some years you are going to have 5 home conference games and some years you will have 4, so then we will always have someone has the advantage over someone else. You could fix that by requiring a neutral site game but which game is required and where would it be played? I think the 8 game schedule and the requirement to schedule a power game would satisfy the SECN because you will have less of a chance of showing little sister of the poor games with that format.
At first I was surprised about the power game requirement but the more I think I about it, the more I like it. For years, UT has played whoever....UCLA back in the 80's and 90's, Oregon, Cal (when they were good), Oklahoma, etc while other schools played no one out of conference so maybe this will make people schedule good teams again.
