Title: Tahj Boyd
Post by: BanditVol on October 10, 2011, 06:57:49 EDT
Is tearing it up at Clemson (or Kleimpsum if you must).

This goes back to my very first doubt about Kiffin.  Almost the very first thing he did, out of the box, was run Boyd off.  And strangely, he did it in person.  The story was that he wanted to tell Tahj in a manly way, face to face, that he was a bad fit for our system.  Rigggggggghhhhhtt.  Seems he could have done it over the phone.

Now...you have to realize what the QB situation at the time was.  Our starter going in was Crompton, who was probably the worst UT QB of the modern era in 2008.   We had almost no one behind him.   We needed QBs DESPERATELY.  So Kiffin ran off a top 5 QB and recruited NO QUARTERBACKS????

Right off the bat I had my doubts about lane, right there and then.  It just did not add up.  I think one of two things happened.

1.  He went to recruit the kid, acted like a jackass and pissed him off (um, yeah, and kiffin never pissed off any other players, coaches or even principals, did he?   :frown: :dielaughing:), and Tahj said eff you and moved on.

2.  He recruited the kid only as an athlete or WR, and Tahj said no thanks.

I am going to go ahead and assume it's 2, but you never know with lane.

And  BTW...all the doubts some responders posted about Tahj Boyd as reasons why we did not want him appear to be without merit.

Hey things worked out.  Bray is outstanding.  But I was unfortunatley correct in my doubts vis a vis Kiffin and the Tahj Body fiasco.  IMO.

No shizzle indeed, but there were plenty of lane defenders at the time.   Long gone now.

And let me add that I understood that most were just defending our new coach, and I did not press it because I also wanted him to succeed.   But clearly he did fizzle up in this case.

No doubt. Thankfully he left as soon as he did.

Just think what the NCAA would've done to us if the Wild Boyz had stayed a second year!  :hurl:

According to Brent Hubbs, Orgeron told Kiffin Boyd couldn't play QB and that's why they told him they were rescinding his offer. An obvious mistake, in hindsight. I was one of the people who defended that. To be fair he's playing in the spread at Clemson and wouldn't have been at UT... He had a blown knee and would've sat for a year at UT due to a redshirt... And Bray is a better fit for Chaney's offense anyway so Boyd would never have played here.

Using the benefit of hindsight everyone could break their arms patting themselves on the back for something. That's really all your post is doing after the first line.

So he flies to Virginia to tell a recruit in person they don't want him?  And he doesn't recruit another quarterback? That never did pass the smell test.  And it still doesn't.

And Revolver, in spite of what you say the main point is not that I was right that Tahj Boyd could play.  It's that I was right to question Kiffin's judgement.

The point is that unfortunately I IMMEDIATELY had doubts about Kiffin, and that those doubts were then reenforced by the "Urban Meyer cheated" thing.  Believe me I would much rather be sitting here saying Kiffin greatly exceeded my expectations, but we know he did not.  I could then go on to list a whole litany of things he did, but this particular thing happened almost right away.

And if I seem a bit smug...well some posters were more vociferous in their conviction that Boyd suxes.  Let's just say I see some humor in the fact that he is at Kliempson.

Boyd turned out to be a good QB.  But like ReVOLver said, Kiffin didn't want him because he didn't fit his system.  Kiffin wanted a tall drop back passer to fit his pro style offense. IMO, had Boyd came here he would have either transferred by now or playing another position.  He had a terrible knee injury so he wouldn't have played as a freshman, he may have played some as a soph, but I think Bray would have moved ahead of him by seasons end.

Yes.  But only now is Boyd starting to shine.

That boat must have been in the "flotilla" that the talking morons kept refering to Saturday night

The main point is that it's a dead horse.

But wait a minute, I followed the Tahj Boyd recruitment very closely, and I distinctly recall....   :dielaughing:

Understood.  But he is a current player, thus a fair topic.  But I am through with this.

Ha! A real recruitnik would point out that his name is Tajh, not reuse the misspelling! I am onto you.  :nono:
