Chavis would have to be the biggest idiot in the nation to leave LSU to return to UT.
If I'm Chavis there is nothing that would make me return, we ran off his longtime boss and friend and we have zero talent (at least compared to LSU) and no chance at competing for anything anytime soon, whereas LSU is on top of the world with no sign of that changing anytime soon.
If LSU beats Bama which I believe they will then I could see Chavis returning to UT as DC..A big pay raise and returning to his home school with another NC ring...He would certainly help recruiting defensive players..The bigger question is if he and Dooley would work well together..

Fulmer was a hell of a recruiter but as a coach he was only as good as Chief and Coach Cut.. his biggest mistake was holding on to Sanders as OC as long as he did and letting his ego get too big...Kiffin is a turd and I'm glad he's gone! This season was bad but look at our schedule and our situation with all the freshmen we had to play...all of the teams we lost to except Ky were ranked.. I think Dooley will get this team turned around and I think that brutal schedule will pay dividends in the future with those young players...Dooley grew up as a coach this year and so did this team..There are brighter days ahead for him and this program...Some times you just gotta dig through $hit till see sunshine..

It may be just the energy traveling at such a high velocity that its bouncing off the surface of Mercury as it gets closer and more intense and the part being reflected back gets brighter and more intense colliding at a focal point with the trailing energy and just looks like something is there...or it could be Darth Vader doing a drive-by on Santa Claus...

I have been and remain in his corner, I still think he is the man for the job. BUT, his career at Tennessee comes down to this off season. He has to turn it around now, there is no tomorrow (tomorrow being beyond next year). It is one thing to struggle because of talent and depth. It is entirely another to struggle because of lack of motivation, lack of effort, lack of pride, lack of fundamentals, lack of discipline, lack of management, lack of organization, lack of mental toughness Those "lacks" are why we had the season we did, and those "lacks" belong to the coaches. Dooley has to own it, and he has to turn it around--now, this off season, this spring, this fall. I still think he is the man, time to find out how much of a man.
Dooley has hit the bottom of the adult swim pool,he will either spring up and tred water and find his way to the diving board and nail the landing next season or he will be face down in the kiddie pool..There aint no life guards on duty anymore!

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Uk loss was bound to happen...

I said all week, gotta beat UK before worrying about a bowl..the past few UK games were close, the last 2 went to ot and with having to play as many freshmen this year it was the perfect storm for a season that has sucked..but coaching or lack there of was the reason for this loss..I like coach Dooley but he needs to ditch the orange pants and worry about coaching..The team wearing them hasnt been any better..I cant remember a UT game where they won wearing the damned things..Its not what you wear its how you prepare!!He needed this game to be bowl bound and make this team better for next year with the extra practice and game experience and he failed..They acted like they won the super bowl last week..yeah the ball finally bounced their way for a change but it doesnt make a $hit if you lose to UK the next week..he wasnt hired to celebrate beating Vandy I dont care how many freshmen they had to play or how many injuries this year..UK and Vandy are suppose to lose to UT..That wildcat b.s at the goal line that lead to a fumble and no points was stupid..put the ball in the qb's hands that got ya there...he said the players grew up a lil after the Vandy win, well maybe he grew up as a coach after the UK loss..Keep your feet on the ground next year coach!

Their defense is very good. And it still bugs me to know that UT had that much or more (usually more) talent on defense throughout the '90s and into the early '00s, but with the exception of '98, our defense was never that good. (And, actually, this year's LSU defense is probably a little better than our '98 defense in some ways.) I was one of those who advocated bringing in a fresh DC when Fulmer retired. After seeing what Chavis can truly do without being under Fulmer's thumb, I wish he were still here.
Chief always had good defenses ranked in the top 10 in stats every yr..it was Fulmer making the mistake of putting Sanders as OC after Cutcliff left and leaving him there too long with offensive stats at the bottom of the nation..like in '05..we had a defense that was ranked i think 3rd against the run and top ten overall and still had a losing season...WTF??

The tackles have to stop the dive, the end/OLB stop the QB and the OLB/corner stop the pitch on the basic option. Their other main play is the dive/fly sweep/QB option off tackle option, which would be more difficult to defend IMO. Both are very defendable with our base package where our freshman LBs are an asset against this style of offense. The lack of Brewer hurts. We need both safeties to step up and trust our corners on their islands against the limited passing game.
Beat UK first and foremost and stomp on their kittties then worry about a bowl!
