If you think Strong is a retread, you need to look up the definition of retread.

I agree that, on paper, Bielema is a much better hire than any of Tennessee's finalists, and it bothers me that Arkansas has been able to make a much better hire than Tennessee two consecutive tries. In no way, at no time, should Arkansas be a better CFB job than Tennessee.

I have some concerns about Strong but I'm not ready to say it's a terrible hire. The guy won 10 games with a Louisville team that had very little talent this year. Yes, I realize the Big East sucks, but still. Can he do the same thing in the SEC? I guess that's the big question. He certainly has to recruit better than he has recruited at Louisville but at the very least I think he can coach Tennessee up in the short-term, something Dooley absolutely sucked at.

Bielema doesn't do anything for me. If you aren't going to hire a big winner, go for up and coming. Bielema is a good coach but not any more of a sure thing in the sec than anybody else. He is not a big winner to this point.

I must be out in left field tonight.

From Wikipedia: Bielema has held the position since 2006, achieving a 60–19 record through the conclusion of the 2011 season.

He has taken Wisconsin to back-to-back Rose Bowls and this year would be three if I am not mistaken.

The guy seems pretty accomplished.  I'd say he has better credentials than Strong.

SMH...if we had hired this Bielema y'all would b*tch that he is a Big 10 coach.

68–24 through 2012 (8-5 this season, and the Rose Bowl is not quite as impressive due to OSU and PSU not being eligible).  Wisconsin also lost in the previous two Rose Bowls.

As a head coach, he certainly has more time and some very good seasons.  He also has some mediocre seasons, this season included.   I'd have to agree that he is more accomplished to date.

Credential-wise, there's no doubt that he beats every guy on our board (except one, and we all know who that is).  But I still have serious doubts that his style will work in the SEC.  I wouldn't have wanted him at UT.

Gruden is the only answer.

This is what I was responding to.  He would not have been my choice either. However,

Gruden is the only answer.

That's a pretty darn good record, and so is three consecutive Rose Bowls.   As I say elsewhere, after Urban (who isn't going anywhere) he's definitely the second best choice in the SEC.  At the same time, Wisconsin doesn't have a style of play that excites anyone, even in Wisconsin, and it's a long way from the South and Southern recruiting.

He's definitely a long way from the worst hire out there, but I like Strong because he knows the South and Southern recruiting much better.  Although we haven't hired Strong yet anyway, so....

I never said Strong was more accomplished. I said Bielema hadn't been a big winner. He's won a weak league a couple of times. He inherited a stable program and has not ascended it.   His best team happened when Russell Wilson fell in his lap.

Lyn is right... If we hired that guy  you'd all hate him.

No matter who we hire half the fan base will be against him and that includes Gruden.

I thought he was responding to the OP.

Which is why I asked. Based on the development of the thread, it's not clear.

If he IS addressing me, I'd like to respond.

Orange. The sky in my world is Orange.

That is not the same answer you would've gotten had you been directly addressing me.

Have a great evening.

Bielima whined about Urban Meyer being too agressive in recruiting when he came into the Big10.  Hold on to your panties, Bielima.
