See, this is why I wish Peyton had hung on for one more year: so he wouldn't have to share the stage with Charles Woodson in Canton.

OTOH, John Lynch finally made it in, well deserved IMO

Isn't that weird how they are elected in the same year? I still believe and will never waiver in my belief that Woodson got the Heisman because ESPN/ABC promoted him. In the name of ratings they didn't want a runaway for the award and Peyton was the leader without competition starting the year. That's not good for TV ratings for the award ceremony. And, ABC showed Big 10 games.

Yes, Woodson was a great player and maybe didn't need the help. But he got it. And I can hold a grudge with the best/worst of them.

There was an article I found, long since lost, that stated ABC Sports was in a hole financially in 1997, and that they used the hype over Woodson to promote the Rose Bowl, which is always a big cash cow.  With the extra income from the Rose Bowl promoting the Heisman winner, they managed to get back in the black for the year.  It was very interesting, but has long since been lost in the interwebs.  Wish I could find it again.

Unfortunately, if Peyton could have beaten UF(even if the losses were not his fault) this would have been moot. It still haunts him and his college career.
