Title: Hey ReVOLver Post by: Volznut on July 25, 2012, 07:51:09 EDT What's your take on buying refurbished laptops off a site like buy.com? Thinking about getting a laptop for my daughter.
Title: Re: Hey ReVOLver Post by: ReVOLver on July 25, 2012, 07:52:44 EDT If it seems like a good deal and has at least some warranty (30 days minimum) I think it is a good thing to do.
My kids both have refurb laptops, we just refurbed them ourselves at work. Are there any particular brands to stay away from in a furbished laptop? Are there any particular brands to stay away from in a furbished laptop? I haven't tried many brands. The ones I gave my kids were the last two Gateways we purchased at my company. I prefer HP laptops overall. I feel like they last longer and perform as well as anything else. Title: Re: Hey ReVOLver Post by: Volznut on July 25, 2012, 08:09:22 EDT I haven't tried many brands. Thank you, sir. Title: Re: Hey ReVOLver Post by: LouisVOL on July 25, 2012, 10:32:20 EDT here is another option, little faster chip. I never make recommendations regarding electronics and I am not now, but I have bought 2 refurb tablets from them, and both have been absolutely perfect new condition. Based in Indy, quick shipment--all I know. I initally found them as an Amazon marketplace vendor. I have also always been satisfied with buy.com.

I feel so dirty. :bowrofl: Title: Re: Hey ReVOLver Post by: BigOrange Maniac on July 26, 2012, 12:17:44 EDT Unbelievably, I had a situation pop up today where I had to buy a refurb MacBook for some testing. I've always liked Macs, but Windows server would keep me from converting even if I wanted to. Title: Re: Hey ReVOLver Post by: Black Diamond Vol on July 27, 2012, 02:24:08 EDT My only experience came about 3 years ago, when I attempted to buy a refurbed laptop on Tiger Direct for a ridiculously low price. The first one would not charge, so they sent me another one, and that one arrived with a shattered display. At this point, I was iffy on trying again, but when I called them, they said they were now out of stock, so I was just screwed. At least they refunded my money.
So that's my experience. I won't go with a refurb again, but maybe you'll have better luck on another site. Definitely don't go with Tiger Direct. :frown: |
