"I do believe we're undefeated since mid-October on our home field . . . but I know a couple people have field fetishes."

Our field is a national laughingstock and Hart wants to belittle those who point it out? If you want to come across as a peckerhead, that's one way to do it.

I saw a game this weekend, Florida, I think where the turf looked pretty chewed up. I'm going to have to trust that UT's is truly bad. I didn't make it to a game this year. Looks fine on TV, to me, but I'm not the most astute observer.

It's embarrassingly awful. Nobody on Saturday could make a cut without sliding and tearing up a chunk of turf.

He should just say it's bad and everyone is working hard to fix it. What's the deal with him?

Because he won't ever admit that he had a part in making it this way.

Bottom line - Butch wants a green field all year long, which means more fescue and less Burmuda.  Burmuda holds up well, but turns brown when the weather cools.

Fescue stays green, but isn't durable.

Hart and Butch are going to have to either give in and go back to what it was when the field was one of the best playing surfaces in the country, or they are going to have to go to field turf.

Can't have it both ways.

It is true that many fields have been bad this year and I read that it was an unusually wet October which contributed to the problem.

That does not completely explain it but it does seem to have contributed.
