Title: I took TRObh for our aniversary dinner at the Bellevue Tavern...
Post by: TheRealOrange on June 28, 2015, 02:01:12 EDT
...in Cape May Court House, NJ last night, and we met a man working there who is a big Tennessee fan.  It turns out that he played for the Vols in 1965 and he plans to come back to Knoxville this season.  He said the team is being honored for its 50th anniversary.  Apparently, much like last season, the '65 team was the first to go to a bowl game in several years.  The team was 8-1-2 and beat Tulsa in the Bluebonnet Bowl.  His name is Bob Petrella, and he played in 1964-65 (jersey number 21).  He was drafted by the Dolphins and played 5 seasons with them.  I'm hoping I can talk to the UTAD folks and make sure they steer him toward our tailgate.  He is a really nice guy.  I'm also hoping to see him in the Vol Walk and get a couple good photos to send to him.  I'm attaching a picture of him making a interception in the end zone against Georgia Tech in 1965, and I found a good story about the '65 team that is linked below.  Pretty cool end to our dinner.

I do remember the name
but then, I'm an old fart.
Oh, and believe me that I remember the RoseBonnet bowl!  I think it took the Swamp Rat about a hundred years to travel that "longest" yard.

I remember Bobby Patrella. He was the one that got tackled out of bounds on the UCLA sidelines and the uclan team did a beatdown on him. The picture of his face in the Sunday Tennessean looked like his head got caught in a combine. That game was in Memphis and we won. Tommy Prothro (UCLA coach) was so upset over the offficiating that he told the press that he was ashamed to be a southerner (apparently he's from the south). Doug Dickey and Bob Woodruff said there would be no return game (at LA) the following year unless he appologized. Prothro took backwater and begged like a dog for a bone. edit...I wrote this before I read the link and this episode is covered in the article. That was one sad event concerning Bill Majors and the others.

I did a little searching for Bob Patrella and found this: http://dan-dansoldschoolsecpage.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html (http://dan-dansoldschoolsecpage.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html)

Awesome read!

That's when I first realized what "relativity affecting time" actually meant! :banghead:
