Title: Saban went for two up 4 points late in the LSU game
Post by: BanditVol on November 09, 2022, 04:18:06 EST
When asked about it, here is his response:

-- Saban said Alabama’s pair of two-point conversions in regulation, which both failed, were based on the chart that said both made sense in the situations.

OMG.  Maybe Butch being down there wasn't such a bad thing?  Did some of his stupidity rub off on Saban?   :dielaughing: :dielaughing: :dielaughing: :dielaughing:

I don’t understand coaches chasing points like they do in todays game.

Probably analytics said a team could get two FG in the 4-point situation, but at some point common sense has to overcome the analytics.  I am an analytics kind of guy believe me, but there is way too much dependence on it especially in the pros.  Its the shiny new thing and coaches like to seem to do the smart thing.

The problem is, they don't really know how to interpret the analytics IMO.  Not all statistics are created equal.  There has to be some understanding of what went into the analytics that factors into a decision. At the end of the day, an experienced coach should trust his gut over analytics any day, in most cases. IMO.
