Probably analytics said a team could get two FG in the 4-point situation, but at some point common sense has to overcome the analytics. I am an analytics kind of guy believe me, but there is way too much dependence on it especially in the pros. Its the shiny new thing and coaches like to seem to do the smart thing. The problem is, they don't really know how to interpret the analytics IMO. Not all statistics are created equal. There has to be some understanding of what went into the analytics that factors into a decision. At the end of the day, an experienced coach should trust his gut over analytics any day, in most cases. IMO. |
