I used to listen to him while running errands in the 90s on Saturday. That's back when not quite every game was on TV yet. He was simply awful. Not so much in a subjective sense, but literally I could turn on my car radio, listen to 4-5 plays and not EVEN KNOW WHICH TEAM HAD THE BALL. If he announced down and distance once in ten plays, it was a miracle. He sucked because you could tune in to the middle of a game and not have any Earthly idea what the situation was for like dozen plays, by which time there was usually a change of possession. I have never heard such unadulterated crap in my entire life. It was so annoying to want to know what the actual situation was, and go multiple plays without even knowing who had the ball. Seriously!
He has gotten better. In a rare event I caught part of the A&M broadcast, as I went to pick up some chicken to celebrate the junior win.
(fun fact, when bammer is playing the lines everywhere are very short
). I give him credit, he did actually mention the down and distance a few times, so I guess he finally figured out how to do that. But as I listened, there were a few plays I wanted to review (I had paused my DVR). One in particular stood out, there was a key pass by A&M on their final TD drive (yes I ate that late), and Eli described it as "very well covered", but on the replay the A&M WR had a good 1.5 steps.
So yeah, he still suxes.
