Title: Looking for a vacation place. We are looking for
Post by: Inspector Vol on February 18, 2013, 09:50:05 EST
a place of peace and quiet. We would like to go see some sites. The main thing is peacefulness. Doesn't have to be remote from everything but doesn't matter if it is either. Would prefer something no further than a days drive away from jackson tn.

Thanks for any suggestions.

So, what time frame are you looking for?  Some "loud" places are the most peaceful and quite you would ever want in the off season.

Also depends on what you mean when you say "see some sights".  What type of sights interest you?

We are not hikers so museums, shows, etc. It will be in the next 2 or 3 months or so definitely not the off season.

Charleston S.C. (and surrounding area).

You can stay at one of the barrier islands with good beaches. Drive into Charleston and find great restaurants, museums, historical sites, the SC Aquarium, etc. Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, Isle of Palms, Sullivans Island, Edisto Island (a little farther away) are great places to relax.

If you go during tourist season, the summer, the crowds will be there because it's a vacation destination. But even then, you can find peace and quiet on the islands. If you go during fall and winter, the beaches are pretty deserted. That's when I like to go.

Charlottesville, VA.  We stayed at a resort there one summer and had a blast.  Within a couple hours of D.C. and all the historical stuff.  Williamsburg, Monticello, etc...

Well, it's pretty nice here in Chattanooga that time of year.  Just bring your allergy pills. :dunno:

I recommend a cruise. I heard Carnival offers a 10 night "get back to the basics" cruise that is really special. Their prices are really good now too.

Actually, most of May is the off-season.  We usually go to the beach during May because the rates are cheap and nothing is crowded.  Surf is usually warm enough to swim...deep sea fishing is good.  Disney rates are fairly cheap...

I heard you could get some good parking spots in southern Arkansas.
