Since we have a little time left in the "dead period" (and I'm off today), let's do some music. We'll start with some great voices: Led Zeppelin, "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", live in 1969. What more needs to be said? When it comes to vocals, Robert Plant is the GOAT if you ask me. http://www.youtube.com/v/HFIORuvNa9IGrace Potter, IMO, has the sexiest female voice going right now. She's the closest thing you'll find to Ann Wilson these days. http://www.youtube.com/v/Vypp5l-LnKMA little slice of 80's cheese. Say what you want about Hall & Oates, but Darryl could belt one out in his prime. This original, unreleased, soulful version of "Everytime You Go Away" blows the hit cover version out of the water. (Side note: I saw H&O in concert in 1984 or thereabouts. Only act I've ever seen that did live fadeouts. If a song faded out on record, they faded it out on stage. Weird.) http://www.youtube.com/v/NR54rkz1sekUp next: Guitars.

I'm sorry, but if we're discussing VOICES, the discussion begins and ends with Alison Krause.

Lzzy Hale from Halestorm deserves a mention. Many of her covers surpass the originals, imo.

I've always thought that if I could have the singing voice of anyone it would be Rod Stewart.

This discussion begins and ends with Whitney Houston and Roy Orbison, but Morrisey, Ann Wilson and David Coverdale deserve shout-outs. I contend Paul Stanley is seriously underrated. Seriously underrated.
George Jones must also be mentioned.
I'll locate the requisite links at some point.

Paul Stanley certainly can't do what he used to vocally, but early 80's he was just about untouchable on Creatures of the Night and Lick It Up.

No, you aren't. I can do it elsewhere. Just can't do it here. Don't understand it.

I think it has something to do with an ailment called Oldfartism, from which there is no known cure.

That didn't work for me this morning. Maybe because I didn't specify the size for the Flash tag.

I'm a huge Steve Earle fan, but I am not about to claim he has a great voice. He does have a very effective voice.
And yeah, Allison Krause is amazing.
There has been one massive omission. John Waite is right below Roy Orbison. I'll also give a shout-out to Joe Lynn Turner and Lou Gramm.

I didn't interpret this to be about great voices, but great vocal performers. Guess that just depends on how one looks at it.

I think that's a valid take. Using that criteria I'd toss Tracy Chapman into the mix too.

I keep seeing references to a fantasy band: Black Oak Arkansas I mean a big song for them was When Electricity came to Arkansas and we all know that isn't true ...
