Title: Strong makes sense
Post by: Volznut on October 22, 2012, 04:04:04 EDT
You all know who I want, but I also know we won't go after him.

Strong makes sense though. He's been successful as a HC, has a defensive mind, and he's AA. Yes, that latter is a plus for recruiting.

Who do you want? I'd take Strong!

Tennessee should go after Him. I hope Tennessee doesn't lay another egg in the upcoming Coaching search!

We have inherent disadvantages as the AD said.  I don't think the job is as attractive as some may think.

I'd like Gruden too! He did marry a UT girl. Never underestimate the power of pussy!

My top two are Petrino and Gruden.  I don't want to get into another thread as to why I like Petrino. There's plenty in another thread.

That doesn't mean Tennessee has to settle for lame Coaches that not a lot of other Schools would want. I think Tennessee should be able to hire a ready for prime time Coach

Those disadvantages are equalized with $$$. The question is, will we have the balls.

Did you not read what OV75 said about Gruden in the "smoke" thread?

Just did.

Just did.

I have no reason to doubt him so it sounds like we are, in fact, chasing Gruden. Whether we get him remains to be seen.

You have to have the money also.  The assumption seems to be that it will magically appear, but it depends on what the biggest donors want to do.  They may well have decided.  Guess we'll find out.

I'm with 'Nut on the top two. I've got Petrino (not relevant to this thread), Strong and Patterson as my clear top 3 in that order. Strong was near the top of my list when we hired Kiffin and Dooley and he's only cemented his status.

Didn't the Browns just get purchased for a billion. Reckon the till is empty? BTW, Peterson is my #1 guy, but you already knew that if anyone bother to read my posts.

I'll go with Gruden and Strong as my top 2. I could see the positives in Petrino, but I just think the character problems are too dangerous for THIS hire at this time.

My guy the last two times is at UF now.

I know that people think that Gruden failed at Tampa but Saban and Spurrier both failed in the NFL too. He brings credibility and a superstar presence and I don't want to hear how he couldn't recruit... he's a workaholic and has the right personality and name recognition to get it done in a big way.

Not questioning that the money is there.  It is.  But the owner of it decides how to spend it, not fans on a message board.

Hell, I'm more than willing to decide how he spends his money. What makes you think he won't bow to my wishes....I mean just because my wife gives me a meager allowance doesn't mean I can't manage money.

I'm tired of the "fans on a message board" and "headcases on a message board" crap.

YOU'RE on a message board.

The headcases on a message board was a joke, intended to be humorous.  That's all.

It was actually an attempt to deflect the discussion with a little dry humor, but whatever. Go back to being the voice of "reason" (actually dissension) if you want.

I would place a substantial wager that it will not be Strong.  He is already making $3.2, and Jurich has stated publicly that he will match any college  offer.  Strong has also stated publicly, and maybe more importantly, privately to people that matter, that he could not morally or ethically leave, and Charlie Strong choked up at his intro Presser talking about his gratitude to Jurich.  He is not Bobby Petrino, loyalty means something to him  Now, nobody in Louisville thinks this is a forever arrangement, but nobody thinks it will be near term.

I hope Tennessee doesn't wind up with a nobody from a directional school
