According to Ryan Callahan: https://twitter.com/intent/user?screen_name=RyanCallahan247

Hoping to see other sources confirm soon. Butch & Co. are doing some serious work.

EDIT: Jalen's tweet from just minutes ago:

Jalen Hurd ‏@MrHurd18
I have officially committed to play football at The University of Tennessee.

Here's his info from 247: http://247sports.com/Player/Jalen-Hurd-17697

Note who 247 lists as the primary recruiter.

Just got a call from a buddy of mine to tell me about it. He's very excited about this and he has seen him play.

Where are those Vanderbilt fans who said Tennessee's top prep class in ages would belong to the Commodedoors? #AnchorDown, baby, #Anchordown.

Seriously, very nice start for Butch. If he can recruit outside the state as well as he's recruiting inside it, it's only a matter of time...

Geez.  At first I was thinking to myself that all the Tweeters anointing Butch as a master recruiter need to calm down.  I came to laugh at tweets that said things like "Vols are BACK!"

However, I can't remember anytime recently that recruiting was going this well this early on.

Early commits from highly regarded prospects can be the key to putting together a monster class. Vic Wharton has been working on these guys since December. Now with TK2 and Jalen Hurd, Butch can sell the guys he already has committed to the other guys he's recruiting. That is HUGE.

I'm reminded of how the Vandy war room cheered when we lost Vonn Bell.  Suck it, Franklin.

I can't help but wonder if this might've been perfect timing for Butch Jones. With such a strong legacy class and in-state class this year, he has a big leg up on recruiting. Get a couple of these guys like TK2 and Hurd on board early and you essentially have 2 more recruiters on staff. That will help land some other highly-rated guys between now and February. Sign a big class this year and that can create positive perception and momentum for the 2015 recruiting season. It's the sort of thing that can overcome a lot of recruiting shortcomings on a football staff.

Could you drop a note to TK2 to stop using the VFL title, please?  As was decided here already, that is very poor form.

Don't sweat it.....and rather than focusing in on one aspect let it ride......O think with Antone pushing it the title will come to mean something.....

Hurd looks like a very elite athlete on film. Can anyone who has seen him in person comment?

He's just as impressive in person, Nut.  And not only is he an elite athlete, his "football instincts" are impressive for such a young player, as well.

My only question is just how big he will end up getting?  He is a legit 6'3" and 225 right now, and he has the frame to put on another 30 plus pounds once he gets in to the strength and conditioning program at UT.  He may grow himself out of a tailback slot, but he is such a great athlete and football player that he will be on the field somewhere.

While I am elated with his verbal, he is going to be one of those kids whom the coaches will have to continue to court, because you can bet that Corch Irving Meyers and others will keep the full court press on him.

Great year in Tennessee overall, and Hurd is definitely the cream of that crop.

You can show me all the spring practice articles you want.  All the interviews where the players say "this year is going to be different".  All the "team unity" outings where they go bowling or hiking or whatever.  But THIS is the only thing that will get me excited in the offseason.  Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting.  There are 4 top 100 guys in TN, and we have commitments from 2 of them.  There's also Bill Bates' kid, I assume we're all in on him as well.  I'm still in show me mode when  it comes to Butch, but he's definitely off to a good start in my book.

Jay Graham and Tee Martin disagree.

Some of you may already be aware of this, but I just read that Hurd intends to be an EE. That's big.

Some good nuggets in here: http://www.tennessean.com/viewart/20130314/HENDERSONVILLE01/303140077/Beech-s-Jalen-Hurd-commits-Tennessee

Thanks, I think I remember that you had seen him. I think he will play TB. He looks like he can hit the hole fast, and runs with authority.

My son called this morning to tell me about Hurd. Butch is off to a great start!   If he can put a decent product on the field this year, it should help us hold onto these guys and bring in some others to fill it out before signing day. Maybe just maybe that would get this thing rolling in the right direction again.

You can bet the other SEC coaches will be telling these guys everything in the book to try and turn them and keep us down too. Can't forget the old urban crier will be spreading his lies too.

You wonder if there is such a thing as critical mass in a recruiting class... IOW... Can a class be so freaking loaded early enough with 4/5 star recruits that it doesn't matter how the team does this Fall as they will look at it as "we" are going to change this.

I hope he ends up as a tailback, too.  I don't know that he consistently runs 4.37 as his profile says, but he is a legit consistent sub 4.5 kid.

I saw him live in both his sophomore and junior years.  While he was very good as a sophomore, the difference between his sophomore and junior years was remarkable.  He went from being an athlete on the field to being an athletic football player on the field.

One word of warning - Beech loses just about everybody other than Hurd this year.  They may not have the team success that they had last year in going 15-0 and winning the 5A championship, and Hurd may not have the numbers as a senior that he did as a junior because of it, but that would in no way take anything away from Hurd.
