When he was a redshirt freshman in 1995 he didn't travel with the team to Florida. Gene and I were working at a convenience store together that day and Chad stopped in to get gas and Copenhagen. He was so tall that his head was above the cigarette display that hung above the counter. I recognized him from recruiting magazines and asked him if he was Chad Clifton. He had to bend over to see me but he smiled real big and said "I SURE AM!"

Gene can do that impression better than anybody... Chad was just a big ol' Martin redneck.
