Tennessee is a better team without Tillman and it’s not even Tillman’s fault. Hooker has a little too much faith in him.

What dies 8 false starts have to do with Tilmam
54  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Bama got jobbed by the refs, or was Bama just doing Bama stuff? on: October 17, 2022, 09:38:18 EDT
Highlights reel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehxfl9K9Jgg

Penalties not called. Yes Bama, you got jobbed by the refs

I love the correlation of the volume of holds in the 3rd Quarter and their scoring spree

1st Qtr
12:35 – Holding, right tackle #65
9:59 – Holding, right tackle #65
2:42 – Holding, right tackle #65
0:30 – Holding, right tackle #65
0:30 – Holding, right guard #55

2nd Qtr
10:37 – Holding, left tackle #54
10:36 – Holding, center #56
8:03 – Holding, left tackle #54
2:12 - Holding, center #56
1:43 – Holding, left tackle #64

3rd Qtr
11:19 – holding, right guard #65, prevents UT from tackling Gibbs for a loss, / results in a TD. Another view of this can be seen at the 9:35 mark of the video
11:10 – Holding, right tackle #65, prevents pressure on B. Young, results in a 2pt conversion pass play
7:12 – Holding, right guard #52
8:15 – Holding, left tackle #54
8:46 – Holding, TE #81
8:51 – Holding, right guard #65, two handed grab of the shoulder pads, results in a TD
8:13 – Holding, right tackle #65, prevents pressure/sack, results in a 15 yard completion
4:51 – Holding, right tackle #66, prevents UT from tackling McClellan for a loss
4:51 – Holding, right tackle #54, prevents UT from tackling McClellan for a loss (called by ref)
4:51 – Holding, WR #7, prevents UT from tackling McClellan
4:37 – Offensive Pass Interference, WR #7. UT had the inside track and could have intercepted the pass in the endzone, yet UT was called for Defensive pass interference. Classic.
2:39 – Holding, left tackle #54
2:39 – Holding, right tackle #65
0:27 – Holding, left tackle #54

4th Qtr
12:11 – Holding, right tackle #65
12:11 – Holding, left guard #70
10:51 – Holding, right tackle #65
8:43 – Holding two different defenders at the same time, very impressive, right tackle #65
1:24 - Holding, center #56
0:25 – Holding, right tackle #65

I think if you added those to the 17 they were called for it would be 47 penalties

I’m not certain that we have the type of athletes on D yet. Hopefully we are recruiting them.

We don’t and we do hope

We love the national anthem too! What’s not to like? The song has bombs in it and rockets going of. It is like the Fourth of July.   The day we celebrate the last time we had ten fingers.

57  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Looking at the NFL draft it is obvious why UGA and Bama have been an automatic L on: May 04, 2022, 02:22:30 EDT
Not sure what songs have to do with anything, but now you only have to remember to 2022 when thinking of UGA's last natty.

a. Why are you anticipating a drop this year?  The defense will drop a bit, no doubt, but the offense will improve a bit.  Best OL, TEs, RBs in the SEC, with an experienced natty winner at QB.  On defense, UGA rotated a lot of guys last year, and lots of backups got experience from UGA's blow outs.  Are you thinking that UGA will actually have to rebuild, instead of reload?   UGA's defense will likely have three 1st round draft picks in the 2023 draft.

b. Why would you ever doubt Kirby's ability to field an elite defense?  The defense is Kirby's baby.

c. Kirby will use NIL in ways that few others can.  First, he's not going to use NIL to buy superstars.  Instead, he's going to use UGA's collective to spread the NIL dollars across the roster, so that everyone gets something.  Maintains morale. If star players strike their own NIL deals (like JT Daniels did last year, Brock Bowers this year), then that is fine.  But Kirby will use UGA's collective NIL to pay the scholarship costs for 5 to 10 walkons, as a way to get around the 85 scholarship limit.  So, a recruit who would otherwise get a scholarship at another SEC/ACC school can just walk on at UGA and his scholly will be paid for with NIL (from the collective).  To get the superstar recruits, Kirby will instead point to the draft, and show that he can develop them to where they are drafted and make much bigger money than NIL.  For example, with the slotting system of the NFL's rookie wage scale, UGA's 15 draftees from this past weekend will have NFL contract values of $137M, with signing bonuses of $57M.  That is what will lure the superstar recruits.  Kirby and Nick are playing underwater 3D chess, while the rest are playing checkers with NIL.

This year it will be UGA, Bama and tOSU in the CFP.  Then there will be a long drop-off as to the 4th team who will get in.  Clemson?  Perhaps.  (Their QB/offense situation is still a mess.)  OU? Maybe.  USCw? Possible.  But it will by and large be a 3 team race this year.   Fact is, based on roster talent and culture, most games involving UGA, Bama and tOSU against lesser opponents are won before the games are even played.  The outcome is pretty much known, and no amount of game-day X&O coaching by the opposition can change that. The culture at these elite programs is what separates them from the other teams that recruit pretty well but never win on the field, such as Texas and USCw (before Riley, of course).

Regarding multiple NCs, obviously Saban and Dabo are the only active coaches to have done so.  In my opinion, Kirby joining them within the next few years is more probability than possibility.

And Alabama is expected to have 7 in the first round. Like Kiper said ga dose not win without Alabama losing the two receivers   we saw the before and after.

60  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Fenway Bowl and Military Bowl — canceled due to COVID outbreaks on: December 28, 2021, 10:28:47 EST
My opinions:
Covid is here to stay.
The more cases, the more likelihood of mutations.
The more mutations, the more likely there will be more severe versions of the virus.
Eventually we will all be exposed, and likely infected with, the virus.
The vaccine is scientifically safe. If you understand the science behind it, there is very little concern.
The vaccine technology has the potential to change medical science in immeasurable ways - and not just for Covid.
Booster shots of the vaccine are going to be a continuous occurrence.

The question is, how do we return to normal?  I don't know the answer, but I suspect that the 'new normal' will never be what the 'old normal' was.

yes we are going to have a new normal.  For the prior 12 years we had any where from 10,000  to 60,000 deaths from the Flu. we  took  some shots and lived with it. without much being said or done. We could get any kind of normal from covid. 100,000 to 200,000 deaths per year? But, there will be some kind of normal and we will live with it.

I can't believe Pickett is opting out.  Need to chang my bowl pick.  They are hot garbage without him.  Hope they get beat down, will maybe be a nice preview of our game with them.

He may be the first QB drafted no need to play

When is the last time Saban missed on a QB. Young will probably win the frickin' Heisman after today's performance.

And he should win it.

So basically, this is a scam that allows boosters to give cayesh moaney to any college athlete that they want to under the guise of "licensing" their NIL???

Interesting......

LICENSING!  Nudge, nudge, Wink wink.

It is not scam. it is the law. and actually always has been

They probably can't make the deal but I believe (I might be wrong) that they can offer courses or guidance on how to manage it. It would just be a basic business administration course open to all students.

they probably could and are doing that
65  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: UT needs to get with it on the NIL........ on: December 01, 2021, 09:34:24 EST
Players are making "commitment" decisions based on it. Good or bad, that's the new reality.

Two players from the UCONN women's team just signed NIL deals.

Do we have a department handling this? If not, it's well past time. No offense to Alontae, but free cookies for the fans doesn't cut it.

I doubt that the university can legally get involved.
66  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Brian Kelley to LSU on: December 01, 2021, 12:13:25 EST
Disagree.  He's a Yankee for sure, so what I think you mean is he won't be as beloved as Orgeron was, who, although being shown the door, was very well liked by most LSU fans to the end (they just didn't want him coaching any more).

He has proven he can coach.  It's also easy to observe that ND can get good, but not great, recruiting classes. Part of it is geography, part of it is the culture there doesn't appeal to some of today's athletes, and part of it is the academic and other items ND puts on the program.

Let me just quote Finebaum today "If Les Miles and Ed Orgeron could win national championships at LSU, what will Kelly do?".

Kelly looks at LSU and sees the recruiting base and talent they can get, and unconditional support from the admin (vs string put on him at ND), and probably drools.  LSU has arguably the second best recruiting advantage in the conference.  Their state is 6th nationally in terms of D1 recruits, but they have no instate competition and a lot of Louisiana kids want to stay home.  Georgia has the best situation.  I know Texas is no. 2 nationally and Florida 3, but there is tremendous in state competition as well.

Here are the state recruiting rankings as I recall them:

1. CA
2. TX
3. FL
4 GA
5. OH
6. LA

Bama is 7th or 8th

Bottom line, give Kelly SEC talent and see what he can do.  Who cares about his personality or background?  Orgeron fit really well.  He is in Destin as I type.

If he wins he will be beloved. That is all it takes.
67  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: This is not acceptable........ on: October 17, 2021, 03:21:19 EDT
Even if the call was right (and it wasn’t) it wasn’t about one call. It was about an entire night of bad calls that legitimately played a role in the outcome of the game. If you change just the scoop and score that was overturned by the officials on an absolutely horrible call, Tennessee wins the game.

I’m not condoning the behavior but let’s not pretend that’s the first time something like that has happened in the sports world. It happens fairly commonly when a bunch of drunk fans feel they’ve been cheated and this has been building because of years of corrupt officiating in the SEC.

Corrupt officiating? You don’t know that.

Oh, and the Ole piss players acting like total #badword#s during the break in play - ZERO (0) respect for them!

If I’m not mistaken he overthrew four receivers in that last possession.

WE had a QB who could do that. I don't think we are any better at QB than we were last year.
71  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Expectations for UF game on: September 25, 2021, 07:38:29 EDT

I am not expecting anything.  We usually just plain crap the bed when we play the Gators and usually everything that can go wrong, goes wrong when we play the gators.  On top of that they almost always come into this game as world beaters just for this one, lone weekend.  Pretty fizzleing maddening.  Maybe one outta every 5 years there is an exception to these general rules, but even when that happens we usually find a way to fizzle it up.

However there is something to be said for this game, this year.  If Coach Heupel  is gonna be the one to lead us out of the wilderness, then he surely knows that things need to change with respect to Florida, Bama and also UGa - but particularly UF where we have inexplicably underperformed for so many years, so many decades, actually.

IF Coach is gonna be the one, he MUST know he has to beat UF.  This game should have been his main focus since the very moment he arrived in Knoxville.  Now he doesn't have to call this shot, He doesn't have to be an idiot like Kiffin and immediately start talking shizzle that we're gonna beat those Gators.  It would be better, smarter, to keep that on a low profile.  BUt the emphasis really needed to be there under the surface this whole dang year.

I will say this game will be an indicator of whether Heupel makes it here or not.   I'm not saying we have to win, but we need to see a different story out there, this time around.  We need to see a team that at times is dominating the Gators, has the Gators on their heels, etc.  Need to see a team that fights back if down big early.  Need to see a team make it closer that it usually is.  I wanna see a game where the outcome is still in doubt with 10 minutes to go.  If I see that, I will feel pretty good at Coaches chances.  If it is just another miserable loss, I will take it as a bad sign of his long term chances of turning this horror show around.  I'm not expecting 7 wins this year, but I am expecting to see a few sparks - particularly in this damn game.

This is the least talented team Tenn has ever had. They are not going to dominate a good team.

Cade had a statement I agree with:  "Football is a game played with a malicious intent"
Doesn't mean that someone goes after someone with intent but that it is a violent game where people hit each other HARD

Cade needs to check the definition of his adjectives > Malicious is deliberately trying to harm some one. that is not what most players are trying to do. Just a macho statement.
