So Satan Saben is retiring.

So let me say the greatest fun would be if the very good OC but mediocore HC Joey Fishwater goes to Tuscaloser!
Serve tot toddies right!

Wow.  Was hoping we could beat the sumbitch a bit more. I guess we at least got him once.

I wonder if any DBs will be in the portal

I have always thought that Dabo would be in the running.

I didn't think it would be this soon, but he's never had to face so many competent coaches.

Dabo would be crazy to take it, but he's an emotional guy.

DeMeco Ryans might take a look.

He is not worried about competition. He handled that better than any coach has.

He never had any competition, other than Urban, until very recently.  The coaches in the SEC for the most part stunk until about 4-5 years ago.

I?m not saying that Nick isn?t/wasn?t a good coach, but it is a lot easier to win when you always have the best talent.

100%

I think a big part of him moving on is that (a) he can't just buy the best players under the table anymore, and (b) he can't intimidate and control the players like he could pre-portal. He's getting while the getting is good.

I think there?s one overlooked factor here. Bammer?s small step back to the pack coincided with UGA?s step UP to elite status. And they both occurred right after Kirby lured away Saban's strength coach and team ?pharmacist? Scott Cochran. Maybe someday that full story will be told.

Excellent point. I have a friend who won't believe that bammer paid players but thinks is likely they dosed somehow.

This has not been a trend lately, but in the early years of the saban regime bammer players suddenly seemed to get weaker when they went to the NFL.  Trent Richardson is a good example, and maybe Mark Ingram.  That hasn't been the trend lately though...

Getting talent is the first responsibility of a coach. He/Alabama did that

I agree. He was great at convincing kids to come play for him. I doubt that this was a result of his amazing personality 😜.

Recruiting is a big part of good coaching. That's why it's hard to beat Saban and Smart playing against them with mostly 3* and 4* players. You make yourself a great coach.
