U Mass 3-9 a year ago, and 102nd in the country in rushing offense, and that was against a Mid American Conference schedule.  Never heard of that conference?  Exactly!

Kentucky....5-7 a year ago, but beat three OOC patsies and narrowly defeated 3-9 USC jr and 5-7 Mizzou. Those last two are good, but only by Kentucky standards.  They were 82nd in the country in rushing offense, although a lot of that was against SEC teams.  Still suxes though!  But...Vols were 20th in the country against most of the same SEC teams, plus bammer, Arkansas, and OU.

N Texas.  1-11 last year, one of the worst programs in the BCS.  I really don't need to type any more, but for the record they were 92nd in the country last year in rushing offense, most of it against Conference USA teams.

Yes, the gator D stats are impressive on the surface, but digging a bit deeper, I am far less impressed.

And I have to add again, that although the UK game is more impressive than the other two, UK was coming off giving up a 35-10 lead over Southern Miss at home.  I think they just laid down, basically.

Total Defense: Teams UT played vs Florida played.

VA. Tech is ranked #5 in total defense. Ohio 76th, App St. 80th.

Kentucky is 123rd, Texas St. 67th, UMass 49th.

The consensus rankings Ken Massey puts together has UMass #113, Kentucky #93, and North Texas #127. So they've played three really bad teams.

But I'd feel a lot better if we hadn't struggled against Appy St and Ohio. At least UF put those crap opponents away.

But again, Appy state and Ohio are not crap.  Ohio was 8-5 last year and Appy State was 11-2.  There is a difference there for sure.

That still doesn't excuse the Appy State performance, that was just awful, but although the score was close and it was sloppy we controlled the Ohio game from start to finish.  They never led.

I can recall a few years where Florida struggled in their warmup games and we did not, and they won.  So maybe this year it's the reverse.
