I've seen rumors in a few different places saying that Jim Tressel has been interviewed. I can't see Him as a serious candidate,I would think He would still be "radioactive".

First of all, I doubt that Tressel is even on our radar.  But if he were, I would support the hire, as long as he's put on a tight leash.  So he's struggled vs. the SEC?  Name a non-SEC coach who hasn't.  He's won a NC playing the same style of football that we won with in 98, and that Bama is winning with today.  His NCAA issues are troubling, but it happened only once to this point.  He isn't a repeat offender like Petrino.  I'm all for second chances- I'm not so much into 5th chances.

Being on NCAA probation, we cannot afford to take a chance on someone who has had run-ins with the NCAA in the past. If we're willing to take that risk, we need to hire Butch Davis long before we even think about Tressel.

With that in mind (not to mention Tressel's show-cause penalty that would have to be overcome), I do not think Tennessee has talked to Tressel. If I thought Hart had spoken to Tressel I would have to become one of "those" UT fans and consider the fact that the entire interviewing process is a smokescreen and Hart already has his dude.

Hubbs says Hart is interviewing Gundy tomorrow and Fisher in Monday.

Also, that Strong indicated to his people that his interview with Hart went really well.

As pissed as I was that Grudenmania ended, when I step back and look at things we are talking to some quality HC's.

I'm mildly surprised that Gundy is interviewing. I still think it's most likely a ploy for more money from OklaSt. I'm going to be ticked if it's Fisher, not so much because I don't think he can't win at Tennessee (and of all the guys on the short list I think he's most likely to fail, unless Golden is considered a short-lister) but because I'll never convince myself that speculation isn't true -- that Hart didn't do his part to undercut the Gruden possibilities because Fisher was his guy from the beginning. Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but that's how I feel.

Strong was once my favorite. Then I talked myself into not wanting Strong. But the more I think about it, the better I feel about what he could accomplish at Tennessee. He hasn't performed miracles at Louisville, but Louisville was by no means as good as Petrino left it. Kragthorpe did his fair share to bring Louisville down.

OTOH, just because a coach is successful at Louisville doesn't mean success in the SEC. John L. Smith got that Louisville turnaround started...and we know how things ended for him.

I was okay with Gundy until I realized they were 7-5 this year, even with all the $$$ that T Boone Pickens poured into that place.

I am tired of hoping we at least go 7-5, so....I don't want em.
