I'm a maybe.

So what is the difference between "don't give a damn", and "who cares"?

I guess it depends on how uninterested someone is in the question

8 teams. No more than that for 5-10 years, if ever.

I've been advocating a 12-team playoff for a long time. A week 1 bye provides significant incentive to be one of the top 4 teams, and I think the argument for #13 is severely diminished from the argument for #5 now. 12 teams allows you automatic qualifiers from as many as 6 conferences while still allowing a number of deserving at-large teams. It makes room for 3+ schools from the same league without unfairly withholding opportunities to top teams from other leagues.

It also limits you to the top 10% of all teams, which I think is a very reasonable upper limit. My problem with doing less than that is the lack of connectivity of teams in NCAA football . . . there's so little connection between, say, Oklahoma and Alabama that it's almost always tricky to tell who is actually better. Including more teams makes this less of an issue because there's less talk and more settling on the field.

I may dig into this a little this morning to see what the field would have been like in past years. . .
