151  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Greatest scorers at UT by decade on: March 04, 2024, 06:52:03 EST
70s Bernard King (tip of the hat to Ernie)
80s Dale Ellis
90s Wade Houston (too bad his dad was the coach)
00s Chris Lofton
10s Grant (tip of the hat to the Admiral)
20s Knecht (so far)

Where is Knecht on this list?  Definitely above Ellis and probably Grant, I'd put him over Lofton, Wade Houston and particularly Bernard are tough to move him ahead of.

So maybe it goes like this

King
Houston
Knecht
Lofton
Grant
Ellis

And I don't do Tennessee basketball prior to the 70s...that's before my time.

I don't get it. A song about the state of Tennessee sung by University of Alabama fans?

Is it just because the group Alabama put the song on their album? It still doesn't make sense. It was written by a Tennessee native while driving through Tennessee.

How did this ridiculous tradition get started?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixieland_Delight

That's what the wiki says. I'm impressed by the number of other songs its mentioned in, I never had heard it until we beat them in 2022.  But then, I'm not a country music fan.  At all.

156  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Bruce Pearl... on: March 01, 2024, 12:11:54 EST
His teams will always be limited by his offensive coaching style
I screamed about it when we lost in the finals of the SECT in Tampa back then
Then I saw it again lst night

Pass the ball around till little time on the clock and then pass it down to (Broome in this case, Tyler Smith in 2009 and pray he scores)

As an aside, it seems that the only thing Steven is good for is screaming at the refs, no actual coaching was observed last night

Nightmare flashbacks to the offense you mention, PARTICULARLY frustrating when it often (seemingly ALWAYS) occured at the end of games.

As for Steven, he was definitely worthless as a player, so his lack of coaching acumen does not surprise me.  Nepotism!  It's never good, just ask the owner of the Cleveland Browns.

Vols have 12 straight at home vs AP ranked teams. That?s the longest streak in SEC history.

They said that at the end of the game on ESPN 2 also.
158  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Bruce Pearl... on: February 29, 2024, 08:08:32 EST
...They asked him to love on Tennessee again. And he does. I'm fine with that. Who knows after he retires... he may actually get VFL status. I guess if you are a rival you call it respect. He's right about one thing... they have no reason to be embarrassed about their performance. 84 points most times means you won the game. I have a lot of respect for Bruce Pearl. It isn't exactly like he was corrupt. He fed a couple of kids some hamburgers... big friggen deal. Good luck to him except when he plays us.

I think he was corrupt. I have heard of major issues with him at UT from a source that was able to prove it (my source told me where each player on the team that transferred would go weeks before it was announced publicly).   I won't say publicly what I heard, but when the issue arose at Auburn that got blamed on an assistant coach and swept under the rug otherwise, I was not surprised at all.

I suspect one reason the university fired him as quickly as they did is because they knew about the other stuff.

The Vols are 2-7 in the last nine meetings with Auburn after going 11-1 in the previous 12.  Could it be the Pearl factor?

Of COURSE it's Pearl.  What else would it be?

I mean, are you being sarcastic above?  I hope so.

But good news, the "Pearl factor" did not work tonight.
160  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Big win for the Vols........ on: February 29, 2024, 03:57:56 EST
Just an amazing run by Knecht...unreal even.  We are very fortunate to have him, and man am I going to miss him next year.

During that stretch, 3/4 possessions were 3 pointers by him (sandwiched around a layup by either Zakai or Adoo) followed by a dunk by Knecht. Just amazing.

The bonus was Bruce getting T'd up on what was clearly a clean block.  In fairness, I could see where from his angle it probably looked like a really bad foul, but still, that was enjoyable.

We also got screwed on a couple of calls...the phantom touch by ZZ and someone (James I think) straight up getting knocked down by Williams on a layup with no call (the announcer even said it likely was a foul).

Also at one point ZZ missed back to back front end of 1 and 1 free throws.

And we still won by a comfortable margin.

Bammer currently struggling against Ole Miss in Oxford.  Looking forward to Saturday!!!

UNC lost 3 of their last 7 games and they were all to unranked teams but have jumped into a 1 seed.

dafuq.  That's crazy, but I'm not going to worry about it for two weeks.

ZZ's steals were a thing of beauty.  Love watching him play, feel very fortunate that he wears orange.

166  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Talking heads on Vol prospects...and might even make sense on: February 22, 2024, 09:49:42 EST
Over the last week or so, I have seen the talking heads on both ESPN and SECN say the exact thing about Vol tournament prospects.

We have the following ingredients....

Highly veteran starters  (JJ, Vescovi, Zieglar)
Good point guard (Zieglar)
Scorer (Knecht)
Big Guy (Adoo)

Then they all say all parts are working, but we need more consistency from Aidoo

I rarely agree with talking heads, at least not completely, but they nailed it I think.  Anyone watching this year has seen how inconsistent Aidoo is.  He is either hot or cold, it seems, with little in between.

I also think that those four things above are in fact the key to tournament success, but that you only need 3/4.  In other words, we could do it without Aidoo but if he is on....look out!

I also realize that JJ and Vescovi have started slow and also been inconsistent, but that has improved as the season progresses.

I agree 100% that Aidoo's play may be the biggest key for us in the tourney.

We are very blessed to have him.

Bad LOSER, after just the 2nd question: "Guys, we?ve got a late flight and we?ve got an early game on Saturday so I?m out of here. I?m trying to get my team on the bus too.:

In his opening statement he threw the players under the bus about not getting 50/50 balls and then backed up the bus with this statement: "I?ve got to watch the tape and say, who did not grab that ball? The winning ball. Who didn?t grab it and why? Why not dive on the floor and just tie it up and we win the game?"

He's a PUNK, and I think the most overpaid coach in America.  I hope he stays at UK a long, long, time.
169  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: An American HERO! on: February 21, 2024, 06:43:55 EST
Anybody that has their window down while their vehicle is being pre sprayed entering into a carwash is too stupid to breathe.

100%!  And instead of throwing a drink, laugh at how stupid you have been, is what I would think.  Oh...and roll up the window!!!

I'm glad we did not become Mizzou's first SEC win. Having said that, they are playing better as the season goes on, but still.
172  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Clearly the league has figured something out re:USC on: February 20, 2024, 03:31:06 EST
And we missed every bunny layup/dunk.

I?d like to have all three of our SEC losses back. None of those really felt like we lost to the better team.

100%...IMO the most legit loss was Tamu, they just played really well down there and we were flat, but we could have won it had we played hard the entire game.

The one I dread is tuskalooser.  We never play well there....
173  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: An American HERO! on: February 20, 2024, 01:51:49 EST
They just showed this on the cable news.

Look carefully, the lady does spray the customer a bit prior to the drink being thrown.

But that's what the stupid person gets for having their window down in a car wash!!!

I totally agree the retaliation for the thrown drink was justified, but there was a reason the drink was thrown.

Former Washington coach
Was supposed to have been going to bamer as the LB coach, instead, the VOLS get him so a bonus hire

Hope so...We don't matchup real well with them and really need the win.

And its on the road....but they hit every POS shot they put up last time.  Lightning doesn't usually strike twice.
