Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Worley...Less is MORE

Despite the Florida debacle last year I would've been inclined to agree. But we saw Peterman against Georgia this year. He did nothing to disprove the notion that, yes, he is that bad.
In Petermans defense Bajakian did not help him with the playcalling at all. there are few QBs that can come off the bench that can make intermediate to deep throws with an offensive line that has struggled like this one has. He should have been calling dink an doink stuff to give the man a fighting chance.

I don't know who the clown was in the stands at Ole Miss with the bag over their head was but they need to be beat mercilessly. This Tennessee team is trying with all they got. If you're ashamed then don't bother going to the game. Keep your sorry butt at home where it belongs.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Worley and then some...

Worley took a beating the other night and never complained. I hope I dont see another negative thread about this man, he has guts and he is performing his best. I am a litle miffed though. Looks to me like Lane is getting meaningless carries. Butch gave all the things for Pig to work on in order to be a part of this team and he feeds him the ball. Marlin Lane stayed all summer long to work on his attitude and conditioning. We were told by Butch that Marlon did all the right things to be a part of this team, yet he gets meaning less carries for the most part. The kid had a better than 5 yards per carry behind a veteran line last year. Why is he not being used more? He runs hard and is moves the pile forward. Nothing against Hurd, but I just think Marlon isn't being given a fair opportunity like Pig was.

I was at the Volwalk about an before it happened and the crowd started building. But I forgot something in the car and had to go back. When I got back with 10 minutes until it started I was gob smacked whenI turned the corner and saw the numbers. I was shocked, and for all the games that I've been to this one was by leaps and bounds the largest I had ever seen. I've never been to a Volwalk to compare this one to so maybe somebody can tell me how this one compares to one when we play Florida or Bama. All I know is I got good pictures and video of it. Loved the band and players circle thing...loved it.

This is something I don't think any of us saw coming. I figured Peterman would be the odd man out. If he doesn't want to be here that's his call, I think he's screwing up, but it is what it is. Good luck to him. IMO this will open eyes for a major QB or two commit coming soon. COme on down and welcome to Big Orange Country whoever you are.

Oh yes, very much so!!! Saw a little bit of it last night and I've DVR'd it. My papaw on my mothers side fought in WWII started out in North Africa then Sicily and Italy proper, and Germany. Was in the Great Crusade from start to finish. He was severly injured at the Battle of the Bulge. He told me that the fighting was so fierce and he was so tired at one point that he layed down in the snow one night and used a log for a pillow. When he woke up the next morning the log he used for a pillow was actually a dead german soldier. My paternal grandmother had three brothers that fought in WWII, two in Europe, one in the Marine Corp, he was in the initial wave that hit Iwo Jima. I remember looking at a photo of a Japanese soldier he killed of him and his family as well as holding the Samuri sword he took and kept. My Paternal Great Aunts husband was at Pearl Harbor when our country was attacked. He was on three ships that went down at the hands of the Japanese Navy. And on my Maternal side I had a Great-great Uncle in WWI in the Balloon Corp! My maternal Great-Great Grandfather fought in the Spanish-American War. Glad to see The History Channel actually do something with History again.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Funny thing happened today at school...

We are sitting in the lunch room eating lunch and it was cold in thereso I get up to check the thermostat. Sure enough it was crank down to 57 degrees so I turn it up to 72. I walk back into the lunch room where other teachers where sitting and told one of the female teachers that I had to reset her thermostat for the third time today and told her what the temp was. She said she turned it down because it was roasting in her room. So I asked her what she wanted it on. She looks at me and says, "69 is perfect for me." I just looked at her and grinned, I mean how could you not, and she turned as red as can be. As I walked away looking over my shoulder she and another female teacher were grinning and redfaced. I suppose the moral of the story is think before you talk, but man it was funny!

I teach school. Where I teach we get "The Others" Yea, you know, the ones that stay in trouble, that are constant classroom deterents, disrepectful in word and deed, lay out of school, won't work and fight all the time. In short, I (we) get what most people, and even other teachers, call the turds. The sad thing is no matter what we do to try to help these kids THEY make the decisions they make. A great deal of the kids where I teach come very disfunctional homes, and as such they use it as an excuse for their behavior. While it may contribute to some of their activity in the end it is their choice as to how they behave. Sadly, the majority of these kids come from lower income brackets, very, very rarely do any of the upper class kids get sent here.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Observations from Spring game

You really can't put a lot on the spring game, its designed to entertain fans and to see how certain combinations work. Having said that though if I had to pick a starting QB right now it'd be Worley he looked really good out there. WR's looked really good, Malone is going to be a stud for the Vols. Hurd will not be taken down by arm tackles nor will he be brought down by one man. Keep him healthy and it's untelling how far he can go. Lane looked good as well. Defense needs to learn how to tackle. That long run that Dobbs had for a TD was witness to pathetic tackling.

I'm curious about this Northwestern Unionization spearhead issue. Here's the question I ask of you: If this goes through will it affect how you look at college football and college sports in general and if so, how?

I had forgotten all about that. I know that when I first read it the first thing that went through my mind was common sense says that as the captain of the ship you should be concerned about your players health. Its common sense.
