All men dream: but not equally.
Those who Dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds
Wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the
Dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they
May act their dream with open eyes, to make it Possible.
This I did.

smacks of a sacrifice, or is it rats deserting a sinking ship? Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch in my opinion.

Colin Coherd (sp?) was talking this the week after they lost to Oregon.  He was discussing how awkward it must be to have to consider firing your own father.  It occurred to me that Monte would probably do the right thing and resign, if anything.  If he cared enough about his "boy" (emphasis intentional, lol!) to quit as the respected guru of the Tampa 2 and come to the college game, then follow said "boy" to USCw, then he will have enough sense to quit after giving up 61 points to a big rival.  So I am not surprised.

For all that Monte got smeared by Lane's shizzle, and the fact that he seems to have a blind spot for his "boy", I always thought the father had a lot more sense than the son.

So I am not surprised he quit at all.  It was really the only option.  If the D improves next year and they exceed this year's win total, it buys Lane another year.

And the probation runs out another year....in 2014 the first probation class will be seniors....it will be an "every class affected by probation" year, and Lane's contract will be up, and THEN he will get fired.
