He was trying to cover his ass with that excuse. Even Steve Young couldn't figure out that excuse......as about 4 billion other folks.

Poor job of if, imo.  No way to explain away that call as far as I can see.  If you throw it, you throw it to the back corner and make sure that only your guy has a chance to catch it.  Just unbelievable to me that any coach, in that situation, would call that play.  I guess that's why I am not a football coach.

Arrogance.  The same arrogance that led him to go for it on 4th and 1 against Texas in 2005.  Gets too cute at the end of games.

Here's what I think....I've seen calls like that work before because the other team is not expecting it.  So I can see doing that if it was the end of the half.  But not in this situation.....

What JC said. What's the one place on the field guaranteed to be clogged up on 2nd down from the 1? Uh, that would be short over the middle?

I disagree. I'm sure everyone in America was looking for Lynch to run the ball. Including the Pats. If that play works, great call.

That's not the point - why call a little dink pass to the inside?  That's where everyone is going to be in this situation.  If you're gonna throw it, make it play action to the outside.  The inside pass could also have been deflected and picked.
