seems to be the next guy gaining momentum. Thoughts on him? He does have a SEC background, and a defensive one as well.

Lol. It isn't always about a "step up" ... Maybe he is tired of his situation. Maybe he hates his boss like I do mine

Has he thrown another fit in Nebraska? Some people say he is just intense. I see him as dang near Bozo crazy. A great DC, but a miserable HC. Nebraska defense has turned into the faded Black Shirts.

More leveraging is what I think. Indifferent about him.
Nebraska has more tradition than us but is even harder to recruit to. An interesting school to compare UT to IMO.

If by "miserable," you mean a 49-19 record as head coach, yeah, miserable...

They gave up 70 to Wisc and 63 to "the" ohio state. For such a brilliant defensive mind, he's got a lot of Sunseri in him.

No to Pelini. He does indeed seem crazy and I'm not sure about upside. He's a fine DC, but he's been a head coach 5 full seasons and lost at least 3 games every one. Most of his tenure has been in the awful Big 12 North so that's not too good.

well you can say that about the 3 losses or more a year but how long has it been since we can say we only lost 3 games in one year?

Need to understand his willingness to jump ship. Next offer has to be the last offer.

Our goal isn't a ceiling of 3 losses a year. If it is we just hire Fulmer.

You really think Fulmer could come back and go 9-3 with this team? Next year? 2 years from now? 5 years from now?

Yeah, I think Fulmer would be motivated enough to get 9 wins. I just don't know he'd have to energy or motivation to exceed that. I think we'd be there in a couple of years without looking at the schedule.
And yeah, I have nothing on which to base the above other than feeling. Please note I love Fulmer, but do not want him hired. We can do much better.

He was a winning coach, but his greatest strength was recruiting and he lost the desire/drive to do that. I am not sure he could ever regain the desire/drive and ability to be a great recruiter again. He never was a great game-day coach IMO, but could get the job done based on the solid talent he recruited and strong coordinators he had (Cutcliffe and Chavis). The program needs to look forward, not backward. I really like Fulmer, but it's time for the progam to reassert itself with a new, hopefully successful coach. It's gonna take time, just like when Johnny came marching home. JMO.
